Launch and Exploration Division has an opening for Mechanical Technician 2 to join our team. This position will be located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
Mechanical Technician 2 is expected to meet the following requirements:
Preferred previous aerospace or military experience in the following:
· Hands on operations of large, small, and fragile, ESD sensitive electronics
· Mixing and application of adhesives and ablative materials
· High pressure pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
· Ordnance handling, assembly, and test
· Overhead crane operator
· Proficient use of various mechanical tools
· Proficient with forklifts, man lifts, and heavy equipment
· Proficient with calibrated measuring devices, multi meters, micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.
· Familiarity with preventative maintenance and lockout-tagout practices
Additional Requirements:
Serve as an integration and test technician in support of DoD and Space Force programs. Effectively support operations in-plant and at launch sites.
Perform integration and test operations during all phases of a vehicle build, from delivery of the motor case through payload encapsulation and final launch.
Adhere to and read established policies and procedures pertaining to job safety and security
Adhere to and read technical drawings and work plans/procedures
Strong attention to detail
Must be willing and able to work occasional odd shifts and extra hours
Ability to engage in an environment of continuous product and process improvement
High integrity and strong work ethics

Gain and continuously maintain technical training and expertise to perform multiple vehicle production activities to include, but not limited to, composite layup and repair; adhesive bonding of structures and standoffs of various substrates; match drilling; riveting and fixture fabrication; harness and RF cable layout, routing, and troubleshooting; connector population; J-STD-001 soldering, ordnance handling, and mechanical assembly
Participate in, and periodically serve as the Test Conductor, for hazardous operations, including lifting, ordnance, and high pressure pneumatic/hydraulic operations
Mentor work activities of junior technicians
Uphold and champion safety and quality assurance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure products and services meet or exceed company standards
Some traveling may be required
Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance or SCI Access

Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician 2: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience
Experience in handling chemicals such as Isopropyl Alcohol and Acetone
Adept at reading drawings, process specifications, and work order instructions.
Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security clearance or SCI Access.
Willing to work any shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
AA degree or other two-year technical degree
Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements
Able to perform daily work in an approved integration processing facility, to include wearing ESD smocks, ordnance jackets, and other PPE.
