Job Summary

KBR is seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to lead and manage a Mechanical Engineering team in designing changes to aircraft structural systems in the US Army, US Airforce, and other DoD customers’ existing aviation platforms. In this role, the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for providing cost and schedule estimates required to execute mechanical designs, as well as all Mechanical Technical Data Package documentation, required by each customer’s Statement of Work and desired schedule commitment scheduling employees’ tasks in support of Mechanical Engineering activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Mechanical Engineers to design and document modifications to existing models of US Army Rotorcraft to integrate new technologies and systems. The models include, but are not limited to, the HH/UH-60 Blackhawk (A, L, and M), and the CH-47 Chinook.
  • Work with other Engineers to Help guide the technical direction of the US Army Rotorcraft fleet by helping define mechanical and structural systems requirements
  • Develop mechanical designs in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to facilitate Maintenance Work Orders and installation instructions utilizing Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards to ensure fabricated parts are repeatable.
  • Perform mechanical analyses as required.
  • Evaluate supplier drawings for adherence to design standards and manufacturability.
  • Work with suppliers to correct any issues found.
  • Manage employees’ time charging based on allocated work authorization hours.
  • Work with Engineering Manager to establish a Basis of Estimate (BOE) and a Period of Performance (PoP) estimate for each project or program requiring Mechanical Engineering effort.
  • Provide manpower requirement projections to the Engineering Manager in support of assigned projects and programs.
  • Assign and manage the workload of Mechanical Engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 2 years leading a team of Mechanical Design Engineers
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years’ experience with the following:
    • Mechanical design generation utilizing computer-aided design software such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, or Siemens NX
    • Configuration Management tools such as PDM, Enovia, Windchill, etc.
    • Aircraft Mechanical and Structural Design
  • Experience in creating and interpreting Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience interfacing directly with US Government Customers in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment is a must.
  • Knowledge of GD&T practices and application is a plus.
  • Experience tracking tasks utilizing software such as JIRA, confluence, etc.
  • Understanding of Military, ASME, ASE Specifications as they relate to Mechanical Design
  • Experience managing Mechanical System Requirements.
  • Existing SECRET clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience interfacing with Suppliers
  • US Army Aviation experience
  • Experience using PDM
  • Experience performing Thermodynamic, Stress, Fatigue, and Crash Loads analyses on DoD Aircraft platforms
  • Experience performing Weight and Balance analysis of airborne platforms
  • Experience in creating Modification Work Orders for Army Aviation aircraft
  • Experience creating or supporting Prototype Demonstration kits for DoD aircraft platforms
