Mechanical Engineer
Purpose
As a Product Engineer II, you will lead projects from idea to implementation, applying your technical knowledge to solve problems, improve product performance, and support cross-functional initiatives. This role provides a balance of hands-on engineering, CAD utilization, project coordination, and process proficiency.
Essential Job Functions
•Lead and contribute to product development initiatives including New Product Development (NPD), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), continuous improvement of existing products, and R&D projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Support design of products that exceed customer expectations, national standards, and internal requirements for quality, cost, and manufacturability.
• Independently create and maintain engineering documentation including 3D CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Direct involvement in all aspects of product development, including ideation, prototyping, design verification, production validation, and field evaluations.
• Drive innovative idea generation by obtaining real-world exposure to Zurn product installations through job site and customer visits, and incorporate ideas into new product designs.
• Research, make recommendations, and execute product design enhancements or modifications to support cost reduction and quality improvements
• Evaluate customer feedback, customer requirements, existing product designs, and performance standards to support the development of new products.
• Manage engineering deliverables by completing assigned tasks in alignment with the Product Development Process.
• Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams including sales, customer service, and manufacturing, and assist in training junior engineers or technicians.
• Collaborate with the drafting/design team to properly document all new designs within the document control system, including 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and technical literature.
Qualifications/Education and Experience
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Ability to manage assigned tasks across multiple projects with guidance.
• Ability to develop creative design solutions to customer problems with guidance
• Demonstrate ability to follow action plans and contribute to project goals.
• Effective team player with a collaborative mindset in cross-functional environments.
• Self-driven and self-accountable with limited oversight
• Fundamental knowledge in 3D CAD design tools; able to create basic models and drawings. AutoDesk Inventor experience a plus.
• Fundamental understanding of engineering principles and product development processes.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and team interaction.
• Willingness to take direction and apply feedback constructively.
• Comfortable working independently or with teams
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software including: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and elastomeric components, such as fasteners, springs, o-rings and seals
• AutoCAD Inventor and Vault
• Microsoft D365
