Role Summary
This Control Valve Specialist Engineer is a highly technical and experienced engineer with particular experience in the mining industry. This engineer is very experienced with high pressure applications and designs, including engineered-to-order custom special valves that are found from our most complex customer applications. As a recognized technical leader in the industry, this engineer advances the functionality, reliability and cost-effectiveness of Flowserve products and aftermarket solutions in a way that improves Flowserve’s competitiveness in the marketplace in alignment with our strategic objectives. This engineer will work with our product development team to design and develop technical solutions specific to the mining industry in highly erosive and corrosive let-down systems. The role would also have parallel responsibilities in other severe service applications outside of mining. This role will involve creating designs, drawings, BOM’s and completing analyses, and will also oversee and support the assembly and testing of complex products during the production, testing and validation process. The Engineer will also have a good working relationship with the commercial operations team leaders to help support the quotation efforts on special high-energy and complex valve projects to make sure our products are sized and specified correctly.

Responsibilities:
- Technical expert for complex valve applications and custom-engineered solutions.
- Ensure product safety through proper review/design and worksite safety through championing Flowserve policies and procedures
- Provide excellent responsive and customer-centric support to both internal and external customers. Establish communication and collaboration as the standard for Flowserve.
- Support the capture and documentation of engineering/R&D best practices and know-how for our products and processes to ensure that knowledge can be transferred effectively throughout the organization and that other associates are able to benefit from the collective wisdom embodied within the technical community.
- Act as lead contributor to the invention and/or design of products or services which include significant advancements in technology or innovative design concepts.
- Collaborate with the product manager to identify existing or anticipated technology gaps in our product or services and then act as lead investigator in researching new or alternative technologies to meet the defined needs in alignment with Flowserve market imperatives.
- Act as an acknowledged expert in the technical aspects of a product or service and/or engineering discipline, both internally and externally.
- Advance Flowserve’s technical standing in the marketplace.
- Represent Flowserve’s technical and commercial interests as a key contributor to new or revised regulations, standards, and guidelines developed by industrial organizations and government regulatory bodies.
- Serve as a technical mentor and trainer to facilitate effective knowledge transfer in an area of expertise to technical staff to advance Flowserve’s technical capabilities and sustain our long-term competency in these areas.
- Design of Blast Tubes, Impingement Blocks and Choke Tubes for High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) letdown applications.
- Design of severe service control valve trim for high velocity and high noise applications.
- Design of control valve trim for high-pressure letdown applications.
- Selection and development of compatible materials for highly corrosive and erosive applications.
- Work with supply chain and manufacturers directly to develop critical components for mining applications.
- Lead sustaining engineering projects to improve cost and efficiency of Flowserve control valve products.
- Support New Product Development initiatives by creating designs, drawings, BOM’s and analyses throughout the product development process.
- Train and develop engineering talent with Flowserve’s global engineering support teams.
- Create and deliver presentations to track and report progress to the Global Engineering Leader, Engineering Director and other senior leadership.
- Design and develop control valve solutions for special engineered-to-order control valve applications.
- Provide timely and effective support for manufacturing and assembly personnel to resolve engineering issues that arise during the production process.
- Actively participate and engage in Operational Excellence methodologies such as Daily Management and Problem Solving to support the efficacy of Flowserve’s quality and on-time delivery objectives.
- Provide technical support to the global order engineering support team.
- Participate and engage in design reviews for engineered products.
- Meet with sales representatives and customers as required to gather direct feedback and information about the customer’s process to aid in developing robust and effective solutions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in product engineering & design with emphasis in the mining industry and equipment.
- Ability to lead teams to success, by being a motivated, driven, self-starting individual and leading by example from the front. Ability to influence and develop other employees not directly reporting to this position by strong positive presence.
- Strong communication and relationship skills across all disciplines in the business.
- Experience with engineering 3D modeling and design tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks, Windchill, CATIA, etc.)
- Practical expertise in advanced thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with research, simulation and testing in the field of fluid dynamics including instrumentation and data reduction and interpretation.
- Individual should be detail oriented, deadline driven, customer focused, a strategic thinker and problem solver.
- Strong knowledge transfer and mentoring skills in group and individual situations.
- Demonstrate a high degree of competency and dedication to educating both customers and the Flowserve engineering community on the development, deployment and application of the associated technologies, products and services.
- Demonstrate a high degree of competency and dedication to apply leading-edge processes and tools to all aspects of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to Voice of the Customer, Value Analysis/Value Engineering, Design for Six Sigma, Requirements Management and Traceability, Risk Management, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, and Project Management.

Preferred Experience/ Skills:
- Experience with the design or application of control valves or related mining equipment in high pressure letdown systems.
- HPAL application knowledge.
