Job Summary:

The Surveillance Integration Systems (IS) Engineering Department within Teledyne FLIR consists of talented people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering with focus on electromechanical design for complex integrated systems.  We design and develop an array of products composed of leading EO/IR cameras, radars, RF, and other sensors deployed on fixed, relocatable, and mobile platforms.  Our products are deployed around the world protecting lives and livelihoods.  Come be a part of our mission.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in mechanical design for military applications. This role is integral to the development of high-performance integrated systems for the U.S. Department of Defense and other customers. You will lead mechanical design efforts from concept through implementation, testing, and delivery, working closely with cross-functional teams.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze mechanical systems including moving assemblies (e.g., masts, booms, support structures).
  • Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize designs for manufacturability and reliability.
  • Conduct hand calculations and FEA to validate mechanical performance.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, both internal and customer-facing.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and customer service teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Document test plans, procedures, and engineering specifications.
  • Reverse engineer complex components and assemblies as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in defense or military systems.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with ASME Y14.100 standards.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical fabrication, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with specialized packaging solutions and electromechanical integration.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with welding, machining, injection molding, and sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with military standards and ruggedized system design.

Salary Range:

$86,700.00-$115,600.000
