We are seeking a Mathematics Assessment Education Specialist (Education Program Specialist 2) to join our Office of Research, Assessment, Data, Accountability, and Reporting (RADAR) at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a permanent position, represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
This position follows a hybrid work model. Some in-state and out-of-state travel may be required. Onsite presence will be required when business or operational needs are best supported in person, such as collaboration, training, or work that requires access to onsite resources. Employees approved to work remotely must have a reliable and secure internet connection and maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity. While working remotely, employees are expected to maintain the same level of performance, responsiveness, communication, and availability as they would in the office.

The Office of Research, Assessment, Data, Accountability, and Reporting (RADAR) leads the Oregon Department of Education’s efforts to ensure data-driven decision-making that advances equity and excellence for every learner. RADAR oversees the Department’s research plan and data justice initiatives, manages federal and state assessment and accountability requirements under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and safeguards the security of confidential and personally identifiable student information. The office collects, validates, and reports education data used to inform policy, legislative priorities, and operational decisions across the agency, the legislature, and the Governor’s Office. RADAR’s work directly supports local school districts, education service districts, and partner organizations by providing accurate data, analytical insight, and accountability reporting that guide continuous improvement across Oregon’s K–12 education system.
What You Will Do!
In this role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of Oregon’s statewide assessment system in Mathematics. You will provide expertise and guidance to ensure that assessment tools and practices are technically sound, equitable, and aligned with state and federal requirements. Your work will strengthen assessment literacy and data use across the state to support improved student learning outcomes.
Typical duties include:
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Oregon’s Mathematics statewide assessments, including formative, interim, and summative components, in compliance with federal and state laws.
Coordinate research, development, and validation efforts to ensure assessment instruments are reliable, valid, and accessible to all students.
Provide technical assistance and professional learning to districts and educators on culturally responsive, equitable assessment practices and effective use of assessment data to improve instruction.
Collaborate with state, national, and local partners to support test administration, maintain test security, and enhance statewide capacity in assessment literacy and data interpretation.

Minimum Qualifications (Need to Have):
Master's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of education experience in the specialty area under recruitment (e.g., classroom teacher, counselor, itinerant service provider), two years of which includes leadership experience (e.g., lead teacher, program coordinator or director, school administrator) in the specialty area under recruitment.
A Doctorate in Education or related field from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the education experience, but not for the two years of leadership experience.
An Oregon Standard Administrative License (issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) may substitute for the two years of leadership experience.
Minimum qualifications must be met to qualify for this position.

Experience with mathematics content standards and instructional strategies, with a focus on assessment practices.
Knowledge of ambitious teaching and equitable assessment practices.
Experience working with culturally and individually diverse groups.
Ability to facilitate group dialogues and solicit and value diverse viewpoints.
Demonstrated ability for project management focused on systems level organizational change
Ability to establish effective relationships with a variety of education and community partners.

Salary Range: The range listed is the Non-PERS salary range. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS.
