Position Description:

Drives the business operations, and results for Salvage, Grading, and Recycling operations for Goodwill Central and Northern Arizona and its affiliated entities. Directs and supports all aspects of daily operations, leading the team and driving the business for both short- and long-term success. This role focuses on innovation in processes, identifying and developing opportunities to divert additional commodities from waste streams while maximizing their value.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Steps in to support the Salvage and Grading Department Managers to drive the business and reach revenue goals.
  • Assists with training leaders and Team Members of both departments, ensuring that department leadership is well trained and fulfills their duties and responsibilities.
  • Provides feedback to ensure quality standards and daily goals are met.
  • When the Salvage or Grading Department Managers go on vacation, this position steps into that roll in their absence.
  • Executes department operations plan to achieve required targeted growth in daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for profit, revenue, and environmental impact as communicated by the director.
  • Monitors and records product levels daily to achieve bottom-line sales budget against targets while optimizing material recovery and minimizing waste.
  • Leads and makes decisions on the day-to-day operations of the department to include determining what product should be sorted based on product levels and customer requests.
  • Ensures and supports payroll and operating costs are managed to budget with a focus on resource efficiency.
  • Creates and maintains ongoing relationships with salvage buyers and other vendors to foster a market for repurposed and recyclable materials.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Aftermarket and department leaders to analyze and develop pricing strategies for salvage and grading product in accordance with current market value.
  • Partners with local recyclers to be informed on their market pricing, hazards that have been delivered in our materials and any hours of operations changes to the recycling companies.
  • Implements and maintains procedures to maximize efficiencies in production, sales and customer service, with a focus on continuous improvement, controlling expenses, and meeting revenue goals.
  • Ensures that Team Members are operating per company standards and procedures relating to security, health and safety; influences any changes necessary to meet statutory requirements, ensuring minimum risk to Team Members and the business.
  • Partners with support areas (Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, etc.) to further business goals and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ensures ROC location is clean, well-kept, and reflects the Goodwill brand appropriately.
  • Builds a high-performing team to maximize donated goods.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.
  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years’ work experience in Management, preferably thrift industry
  • Demonstrates ability to lead, coach, train and motivate others
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid drivers’ license and clean MVR
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position
