Summary
The Master Data Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of critical business data across enterprise systems. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining master data related to customers, vendors, materials, products, and financial records. The specialist acts as a key liaison between business units and IT, ensuring that data standards and governance policies are upheld throughout the organization.
In this role, you will support operational efficiency by enabling reliable data for decision-making, reporting, and transactional processes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, resolve discrepancies, and implement improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive, with a strong understanding of data management principles and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Your Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and manage master data records in ERP and other business systems.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across all platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Procurement, Sales, IT) to gather and validate data requirements.
- Monitor and audit data quality, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Support data migration and integration projects.
- Assist in implementing data governance policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for mastering data processes, standards, naming conventions, and workflows.
- Ensure consistent application of data governance policies.
- Provide training and support to end-users on master data processes.
- Generate reports and dashboards to monitor data quality metrics, usage trends, and compliance. Provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Respond to and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner, coordinating with relevant teams to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
Your Experience, Education, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration / Applied Informatics / Information Systems, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in similar position - preferably in mastering data management or a related role (claims or customer care specialist)
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Strong Excel skills: experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
- Fluent in English
- Basic German speaking skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with documentation and maintaining structured records.
- Knowledge of data governance and data quality principles.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Data Visualization Tools: such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik to create dashboards and reports that provide insights into data quality and usage.
- Knowledge of Data Privacy and Compliance Standards: Familiarity with regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or other relevant data protection laws, ensuring that master data practices align with legal and ethical standards.
- SQL and Data Querying Skills: Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries to extract, analyze, and validate data from relational databases.
- Change Management Experience: Understanding how to manage data changes and communicating effectively with stakeholders during system upgrades or process transitions.
- Project Management Skills: Ability to lead or contribute to data-related projects, including migrations, system implementations, and process improvements, using methodologies like Agile or Waterfall.
- Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical mindset to identify root causes of data issues and propose effective solutions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to work with diverse teams including Finance, Procurement, Sales, and IT to align data practices with business needs.
- Attention to Detail and Accuracy: A meticulous approach to data entry and validation to ensure high-quality master data.
