Job Summary


The Marketing & Communications Assistant is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining promotional and communication materials for the Alireza Ahmadian Lectures in Iranian and Persianate Studies. The role encompasses website development, graphic design, and multimedia content creation to support the lecture series.

Organizational Status


The Marketing & Communications Assistant reports to Mostafa Abedinifard, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Modern Persian Literature and Culture at the Department of Asian Studies, who will provide oversight, guidance, and approval of deliverables.

Work Performed

Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive website under the domain pips.ubc.ca to promote the Alireza Ahmadian Lecture series.

  • Develops and updates engaging web content, including lecture series information, events, resources, faculty profiles, and program details.

  • Ensure the website’s design is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for accessibility.

  • Maintain and update the website regularly to ensure current and accurate information.

  • Design promotional materials such as posters and graphics for the lecture series events.

  • Ensure thematic alignment of promotional materials with each event’s content, including creative development, layout design, incorporating feedback, and preparing materials for both prints and digital distribution.

  • Coordinate media and communications for the lecture series events: Publish materials across social platforms, draft captions and promotional posts tailored to each event’s academic and cultural focus, coordinate the scheduling and rollout of posts and paid advertisements to optimize outreach and engagement.

  • Collaborate with faculty and stakeholders to align designs with program themes and objectives.

Must exercise judgment based on confidential and time-sensitive information; error or failure with information gathering and research could result in improper dissemination. Errors or incorrect decisions can have significant adverse impact on all parties and the Department’s reputation.

Works independently under general supervision of Mostafa Abedinifard, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Modern Persian Literature and Culture at the Department of Asian Studies

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation, plus two years of post-secondary education, plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Department of Asian Studies’ Alireza Ahmadian Lecture Series and its activities

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Persian, a critical requirement for the role.

  • Expertise in graphic design, web development, and poster creation, with a specialization in Persian-language content.

  • Knowledge of Persian literature and culture

  • Previous experience recording and designing event materials for similar Persian-language lecture series and/or Persian Language Program showcasing reliability and high-quality work.

  • Experience with communications-related field is strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge or experience with a website content management tool or html coding, WordPress platform and/or current communication forms/media; experience with general administrative work preferred. Proficiency with the WordPress platform and website layout.
