Position Summary
Manufacturing Services Systems Engineers are extremely diverse, highly skilled specialists who provide repair & maintenance activities on a broad portfolio of machine tools, including but not limited to multi axis mill/turn/hob CNC machines (Hermle, WFL, Pfauter, DMG, Mazak, DSG and Heyligenstaedt) and CNC Grinders (Schaudt, Studer, Hofler & Danobat)
You will provide support to the Manufacturing Services Manager, Manufacturing Services Engineers, and Manufacturing Services Technicians to ensure the organisation’s objectives and goals are delivered. Manufacturing Services Systems Engineers are technical leads within their field of expertise, providing an essential service to operations.
What you will be doing:
- Provide extensive technical service relating to machine or process failures to other supporting functions, coordinating with OEM and machine tool specialists to establish root cause of failures, and putting in place processes to eliminate or reduce reoccurrence. Using problem-solving skills, judgement, training, and previous experience to identify and suggest improvements that optimise maintenance strategies, processes, and procedures.
- Machine tool calibration is an important part of keeping all CNC machine tools to the OEM specification or indeed better, so we produce right first-time parts and avoid non-conformance where at all possible. So, working alongside the maintenance team with the calibration tools available (Renishaw Laser, Ballbar etc..) to provide the most accurate machine tool platforms we can, using both mechanical and electronic/software adjustments.
- Establish and maintain suitable archiving systems for executive software and machine parameters, relating to all installed computer-controlled machinery.
- Technically responsible for moderately sized projects relating to CNC machine tools and non-conventional machining – liaising with machine tool manufacturers, their agents and control suppliers to provide technical leadership to ensure the projects are delivered to the right quality, on time and to budget.
- Coordinate your work activities/workload with internal and external customers including Production Leaders, Team Leaders, Design & Manufacturing Engineers, Production Operatives, and other maintenance engineers. Assisting in the specification, Factory acceptance protocol, Installation commissioning of new or replacement equipment, ensuring that the new equipment meets the required performance specification.
- Collect, organise, and analyse data from a wide variety of sources (engineering, plant & machinery drawings, electrical schematics, maintenance manuals, parts catalogues, historical maintenance records & machinery fault codes) to deliver the most effective approach towards capable plant & equipment.
Position Qualifications:
- Time served engineering apprenticeship in electrical, mechanical, or maintenance-based engineering, would ideally like a candidate with a minimum of 4 years working in a CNC service/maintenance environment.
- Attended further education at HNC level or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience of working with & interrogating control systems including FANUC, Siemens S5, S7, Sinumerik 840D Powerline/Solutionline, Fanuc to name a few.
- High understanding of electrical, electronic systems, power electronics, computer numerical control systems and a knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic systems.
- Must be able to work as part of a small but dedicated team and be a self-motivated and energetic team player, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
