[What the role is]
The Food Safety and Security Act (FSSA) was passed by Parliament in January 2025 and will be implemented over 3 tranches from 2025 to 2027. This requires the making of subsidiary legislation, and you will be part of a team responsible for preparing, planning and enabling the implementation of theFSSA.[What you will be working on]
1. Member of the legislative development and management team responsible for leading the enactment of legislation to ensure that SFA has the legal power to operationalise food safety interventions including standards in food regulations. The key workstream for 2026-2027 would be the FSSA. This would include:
a. Working internally with Divisions and with MSE and relevant agencies on the content of the FSSA subsidiary legislation which would include preparation of drafting instructions, formulation of new policies and review of current policies where relevant, and board resolutions.
b. Coordinating and managing the overall process, timelines/schedules and administrative tasks across various divisions.
c. Organising and facilitating regular meetings, including agenda planning, scheduling of meetings, booking venues or virtual links and circulating materials.
d. Recording, preparing and circulating accurate and timely meeting minutes.
e. Following up with relevant parties to track progress against assigned tasks.
f. Support the project teams in preparing presentations, progress reports and other documentation for senior management.
g. Maintaining organised documentation to support transparency and accountability
Duties also include studying the existing requirements and industry practice, formulating new requirements, engaging stakeholders (both internal and external), and working with other divisions and agencies to ensure smooth implementation.
