The role

As the Manager Technology & Innovation in Ship Maintenance, you are the strategic engine within our RD&I department, tasked with fundamentally transforming the lifecycle support for our naval vessels.

Your core role is to invent and realize the next generation of maintenance and support solutions. You will develop the vision and set the technological strategy and roadmap to maximize the reliability and availability of our fleet.

You operate at the intersection of cutting-edge technology (such as IoT, AI, and Digital Twins) and commercial realization. You lead the way to improved ship operations and increase the availability and reliability of Damen Naval products through smart, data-driven innovations.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategy & Vision: Developing and implementing a strategic vision and roadmap for data-driven maintenance, crew training, and logistics support, aligning with Damen Naval's long-term lifecycle goals.

  • Technological Leadership: Acting as the line manager for a team of Data Scientists and Solution Architects, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • Knowledge & Resource Management: Managing knowledge, resources, budgets, and priorities for the Data Scientist and Solution Architect teams to ensure projects are adequately resourced and cost-effective.

  • Implementation & Stakeholders: Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Operations, Services, and Proposals) to successfully implement innovations within the business.

  • Monitoring & Reporting: Developing and tracking key performance indicators for the teams, and providing regular reports and insights to senior management.

  • External Collaboration: Collaborating with vendors, research partners, customers, and technology providers to leverage external expertise and resources.

  • Market & Trends: Staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying new opportunities for innovation in ship maintenance and Lifecycle Product Support services.

Skills & experience

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience driving innovations in the maintenance, repair, and logistic support processes in the maritime and/or offshore sector.

  • Knowledge of data ethics, data compliance and data security.

  • Master of bachelor’s degree in a technical study (preferably shipbuilding or mechanical engineering).

  • Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.

  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
