About the Role

As a Manager of AI and Data Science at Shipwell, you'll lead a talented team driving the future of AI-powered logistics solutions. You'll set the technical vision and strategy for our AI/ML initiatives, making critical architectural decisions that shape our data and AI infrastructure. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management—you'll mentor ML engineers, AI engineers, and data scientists while overseeing the design, development, and deployment of production-grade ML models, AI agents, and data pipelines.

You'll collaborate closely with engineering, product, analytics, and leadership teams to align AI/ML projects with business objectives, ensuring we deliver high-impact solutions that keep Shipwell at the forefront of AI in logistics. From building scalable data architectures on AWS to driving innovation in GenAI and agentic systems, you'll play a pivotal role in how Shipwell leverages data and AI to revolutionize supply chain management. This is a dynamic opportunity to make meaningful impact, combining deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

What we’re looking for:

Must haves:

  • 7+ years of experience in machine learning, AI engineering, or data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Proven track record of architecting, developing, deploying, and maintaining ML models and AI agents in production environments
  • Deep expertise in Python, SQL, modern ML tooling, and frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent agent development kits
  • Strong understanding of data engineering best practices including ETL pipelines, data integrity, monitoring, and optimization
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and collaborating with DevOps teams to enable scalable AI/ML systems
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members, fostering technical growth and collaborative excellence
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineering, product, and executive leadership
  • Experience with the entire SDLC in Agile methodologies and git.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a quantitative field, or demonstrated equivalent experience

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in the logistics, supply chain, or transportation industry
  • Experience with load planning and route optimization in supply chain
  • Experience with agentic workflows and product-oriented AI development (building AI systems that interact directly with end users)
  • Familiarity with DBT, large-scale data model refactoring, and performance optimization
  • Prior exposure to DevOps processes including containerization and CI/CD deployments
  • Track record of staying current with cutting-edge developments in GenAI, LLMs, and ML research
  • Master's or PhD in a relevant technical field

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, analytics, and leadership teams to align AI/ML projects with business objectives
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of ML models, AI agents, and data pipelines from conception to production
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and performance across all ML and data infrastructure through best practices and monitoring systems
  • Drive innovation in GenAI, agentic systems, and advanced ML techniques to keep Shipwell at the forefront of AI in logistics
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and cross-functional dependencies to deliver high-impact AI solutions
  • Communicate technical concepts and project outcomes effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and raising the bar for team performance and technical excellence

The Salary Range for this role is between $100-$130K per year with bonus upside. Compensation is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
