Position Summary

The Manager at SAS is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the operation a department within SAS. Duties include formulating policies and procedures, managing daily operations, ad planning the use of materials and human resources within the department. This position requires an expert knowledge in the area of expertise of their responsibility.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Completes thorough analysis of issues and makes decisions

  • Manages multiple mentoring relationships with highly successful employees.

  • Coordinates teams to implement significant changes.

  • Oversees activities directly related to making products or providing services.

  • Reviews financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement.

  • Determines areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.

  • Manages, mentors, and trains staff.

  • Prepares work schedules and assigns specific duties.

  • Establishes and implements team or departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with appropriate parties.

  • Determines staffing requirements in conjunction with Human Resources and participates in recruiting processes such as phone screening and interviewing.

  • Coordinates budgets, forecasting, and spend in conjunction with Finance and Accounting departments.

  • Reports performance, status, and plans to upper management and executives.

  • Communicates company and departmental direction to subordinates.

  • Provides ongoing feedback to employees.

  • Works on projects with a broad, very complex scope, has a great deal of undefined components and has impact across a large portion of the organization and has a very large number potential undefined interdependencies and the path to a success outcome is often unknown at the beginning of the project; the project may affect the entire organization.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledges

  • Demonstrates deep level of knowledge of programs and best practices within functional area of expertise

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information

  • Effectively communicates via verbal/written means to other SAS departments and executives even in complex situations

  • Multitasks and adapts to constant change

  • Proficient in relevant SAS systems

  • Able to use Microsoft Office software (Expert level Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Has expert level meeting management skills

  • Has expert level presentation skills

  • Has expert level skills leading teams and influencing others

  • Has the ability to produce results through other people

  • Has expert level project management skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Typically requires 13+ years of experience in the administrative area or 18+ years of experience in the operational area
