The maintenance manager is responsible for leading hourly and exempt engineering/maintenance staff colleagues across multiple shifts to assist the operations in achieving targets through the execution of routine & non-routine maintenance of equipment related to site mechanical, utility and facility systems. Proven subject matter expertise experience in a specific discipline (HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, utilities, etc.)
What You Will Achieve
In this role, you will:
Provides leadership and support for the maintenance/reliability of equipment, utilities, facilities and controls.
Ensures that qualified resources are available to perform planned work. Responds to planned & unplanned work requests utilizing judgment and experience to prioritize activities on a shift-by-shift basis with emphasis on performing the work safely and right-first time.
Provides leadership, supervision and performance management to the maintenance, utilities and calibration technicians. Establishes colleague development, team goals & objectives, and performance expectations for direct reports. Provide priorities, ongoing feedback and recognition.
Accountable for long-range resource planning and performance improvement. Interface with line personnel and management regarding key issues and problems impacting production.
Leads recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, succession planning and salary adjustments. Monitors’ personnel progress in accomplishing assigned project objectives, quality, budget and scheduled commitments. Provides counseling to colleagues as needed and assures that appropriate training is provided to department colleagues. Enforces company and departmental policies and procedures.
Adheres to and enforces all site safety standards. Participate in safety training events and ensures that all staff safety training is completed in a timely manner.
Ensures that colleagues adhere to cGMP requirements and are fully trained in all relevant policies and procedures as well as all federal and global regulations. Identifies forward looking technical requirements to meet future business needs
Provides feedback to peers and colleagues in other departments, and actively supports activities such as safety, continuous improvement and recognition.
Leads cross-functional team including quality, operations, warehouse and other production personnel to ensure information is properly shared and production remains on schedule.
Leads regulatory and customer audit tours. Completes operational quality, environmental, and safety incident investigations as required.
Responsible for and leads continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance, safety and production to minimize risk, ensure product quality and reduce waste through the application of tools related to LEAN manufacturing and Six Sigma such as OpEx and IMEx principles.
Champions a safety culture by aiding in the establishment of safety rules and instruction. Adheres to safety requirements. Reports events to EH&S. Ensures events are contained and appropriate steps are taken to mitigate risk to product and the manufacturing environment.
Identifies and leads special projects and other duties
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of
experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience
Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements):
Prior engineering or maintenance experience required for this role within manufacturing and Engineering/Maintenance Team lead utilities operation, preferably in the biotech, pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
Previous direct supervisory-level experience is desired
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is required as is a thorough understanding of the relevant portions of cGMP regulations.
Expertise in specific disciplines such as electrical, HVAC, instrumentation, utilities, etc. is beneficial.
Expertise level of knowledge of mechanical, electrical, automation systems.
Able to read mechanical and electrical schematics.
Broad understanding of machining, welding and relay logic.
Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization.
Strong computer skills with use of programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PDOC’s, eQMS and EAMS (CMMS)
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requirements are typical for a manufacturing plant work environment with routine excursions to job sites and utility or manufacturing areas. Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting or lowering up to 50 lbs as well as desk/computer-based activities.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
This position would typically work a routine weekly work schedule (M-F, 8 hrs, dayshift) but is responsible for maintenance activities that occur on a 24/7/365 schedule. Position is expected to be available on-call as scheduled. Night or weekend work may occasionally be required to meet business objectives. Business travel requirements are minimal.
