The role:

Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced FP&A professional to join our global reinsurance business. As FP&A Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of financial planning and analysis. You will provide strategic insights and forward-looking analysis to support decision making within the Protection Line of Business as well as at a Divisional level. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teams across the business in multiple regions.

*This role requires hybrid availability at our downtown Toronto office (40 King St. W.), eventually requiring a 4-day per week in-office schedule by mid-2026.

Team outputs/ objectives:

Financial Planning & Analysis is a global function within Finance operating in UK, Asia, Australia and North America.

The FP&A team is responsible for all financial analysis, MI design and production, strategic planning and forecasting. The FP&A team also support the company strategic objectives in relation to acquisitions, pricing, modelling and Tax strategy.

Key Responsibilities

This role is primarily accountable for driving financial planning, in-depth financial analysis, and process optimization for the Western Protection line of business, as well as overseeing global expense management. 

Financial Planning:

  • Develop and maintain the company's global expense planning and Western Protection business planning processes, including annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.

  • Collaborate with department heads to gather financial data and assumptions for budgeting and forecasting purposes.

  • Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

  • Monitor and report on key financial metrics to senior management, highlighting areas of concern or opportunities for improvement.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and scenario modelling, to support strategic decision-making.

  • Identify risks and opportunities in the financial forecast and provide recommendations to mitigate risks or optimize opportunities.

  • Develop financial models and dashboards to track and communicate key financial metrics and KPIs.

  • Ensure stakeholders are kept up to date with timely, complete and meaningful analysis

System & Process Enhancement:

  • Partner with both business-as-usual (BAU) and project teams to continuously assess and enhance financial systems and applications.

  • Drive improvements in planning and reporting tools to support scalability, accuracy, and efficiency across FP&A processes.

  • Champion automation and digital transformation initiatives that streamline workflows and improve data integrity.

  • Ensure systems are aligned with business objectives and capable of delivering actionable insights to stakeholders.

  • Take full ownership of global expense management, encompassing process design, governance, control frameworks, and cost center architecture, with a clear mandate to drive operational efficiency and sustainable cost optimization.

Team Management:

  • Manage FP&A analysts, providing guidance, coaching, and feedback.

  • Effectively utilize global pool of resources to achieve tactical, operational and strategic objectives.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting efficiency and effectiveness within the FP&A function.

  • Collaborate with other finance and accounting teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment of financial processes globally.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, FCAS, FSA, etc.) and at least 5+ years post qualified relevant experience.

  • Experience supporting a finance system implementation or transformation (e.g. moving from Excel models to a planning tool) is an advantage.

  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in the Insurance industry.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data.

  • Proficient in financial modelling and forecasting techniques.

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software (e.g., ERP systems, BI tools), having implemented a new tool would be a plus.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
