What is the role?
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team helps to drive overall business performance by challenging and supporting critical decision making through the delivery of insightful analysis, action-oriented reporting and the design and management of planning and forecasting processes that meet both Corporate and Operational requirements. We ensure maximum impact through clear messaging, presentation, effective business partnering with senior management stakeholders and focused communication of group strategic and financial goals. This role will act at a management level, capable of self-motivating their work, leading, coaching and supporting one direct report, challenging and discerning how and what work gets done, is able to build relationships and hold accountabilities at senior levels within the organization, their team and with themselves.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pet Valu Canada is seeking a Manager of FP&A to support our Merchandising departments. In the role of Manager FP&A Merchandising, you will be responsible for the following:
- Lead the preparation and analysis of sales, revenue and margin forecasts for the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, weekly latest estimates, and monthly financial & operational reporting.
- Coach, lead, and manage one direct report, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to foster professional growth, ensure high performance, and promote best practices within the FP&A team
- Work cross-functionally to provide ad-hoc financial analysis, business cases, and recommendations to Merchandising management, supporting strategic initiatives, new product launches, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor relevant KPIs, dashboards, and analytical tools to support Merchandising objectives.
- Analyze current and historical sales and margin trends, identifying risks, opportunities, and actionable insights for Merchandising and Finance leadership.
- Collaborate closely with Merchandising and cross-functional teams to ensure financial objectives are met and key initiatives drive results.
- Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to senior management, including VPs and Directors, and Chief-level executives.
- Continuously improve FP&A processes through analytics, automation, and best practices.
Experience, Education, Certifications
- The ideal candidate will be a self-driven and highly motivated individual. Someone who displays precision, attention to detail, and proficiency with systems and technology.
- The candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, performing multiple tasks / projects within defined deadlines.
- The Ideal Candidate would possess a Degree in Finance, Economics or Business and/or hold a relevant designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, CFA) with prior exposure to the Retail Industry and Merchandising or Sales functions in a financial support or analytical capability.
- Exposure to financial systems and business intelligence tools is required. D365, NAV, Tableau, Adaptive or experience with comparable tools is suitable.
- At least 5 years of experience within a Management, Senior Financial Analyst or Senior Business Analysis role is required.
- Solid base of finance knowledge and accounting standards. Responsive and timely, with a developed sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent working knowledge of tools such as Excel and data manipulation to fulfill reporting requirements.
