The Opportunity:
The Manager, North America Diabetes Field Medical Education &Training is a full-time remote role within Abbott’s Medical Affairs team. This position is responsible for leading the development and delivery of scientific training programs for the North America Medical Affairs team with a primary focus on diabetes and Abbott Products. The role ensures scientific and operational readiness through structured onboarding, continuous education, and performance coaching. It also supports field deployment during territory vacancies and contributes to cross-functional initiatives aligned with business priorities and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, skilled in scientific communication, and experienced in field medical operations.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement onboarding and continuous education programs for North America Medical Affairs roles for Abbott Diabetes Care.
- Apply adult learning and evidence-based cognitive principles to create engaging, scientifically rigorous content.
- Develop and deliver blended learning experiences that can include self-paced modules, live workshops (virtual and in-person), podcasts, videos, and knowledge retention tools.
- Align onboarding and ongoing learning with medical strategy and product lifecycle phases.
- Develop and manage scientific content, including slide decks, FAQs, and educational resources tailored to healthcare provider audiences.
- Conduct workshops, coaching sessions, and accompany colleagues during professional activities to enhance MSL effectiveness and field readiness.
- Provide field coverage during MSL vacancies to ensure continuity of scientific engagement.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs leadership to align training and field activities with congress strategy and product lifecycle stages.
- Lead pre-conference briefings and post-conference reporting for major medical congresses. Support development of non-promotional materials for congresses, including posters, symposia content, and advisory board facilitation.
- Partner with Clinical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Marketing, Public Affairs, and R&D to ensure training reflects current priorities.
- Provide scientific input for sales training and speaker development initiatives. Guide Medical Affairs Fellows through structured rotation milestones—including education, in person/virtual real-time engagement monitoring, shadowing, co-presentations—and track their progress and exposure to internal functions, documenting learnings and readiness.
- Prepare and distribute MSL insight reports to share HCP feedback with Abbott medical, marketing, and commercial leadership to support strategic planning.
- Ensure all activities and interactions are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and company policies.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, DNP, MD, MS, or equivalent) with clinical or research experience in diabetes preferred.
- Licensure/Board Certification
Clinical licensure is required for the respective role (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, or Pharmacist), in accordance with applicable state and/or national regulations.
- Minimum 3 years in a health sciences field.
- Prior MSL experience with demonstrated success in training or mentoring.
- Strong knowledge of diabetes therapies (CGM, and emerging sensor technologies), strong ability to critically review and communicate scientific literature.
- Excellent scientific communication, coaching, and presentation skills.
- Technology Skills: Proficiency in e-learning software, MS PowerPoint, Word, and basic Excel; AI literacy preferred.
Preferred Attributes:
- Therapeutic Expertise: Deep understanding of diabetes management, CGM technologies, and emerging platforms such as dual glucose-ketone sensors.
- Training Leadership: Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering scientific training programs for field medical teams.
- Field Coaching Experience: Proven ability to partner in field activities, provide feedback, and mentor MSLs in real-world HCP engagements.
- Familiarity with Veeva CRM and field insight documentation
The base pay for this position is
$111,300.00 – $222,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
