Job Description:

The role will be having accountability over the accounting policies and the related matters in Asia.  The position assists the Director, Accounting Policy and Financial Reporting and works closely with the Corporate Office and business units in implementing new IFRS accounting standards, ensuring the compliance with IFRS and Sun Life accounting policies, and providing accounting advice and guidance on complex and non-standard transactions and various initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with professional qualification in ACCA, HKICPA, or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience gained within a multi-national environment with regional or corporate exposure
  • Strong accounting technical skills, and high level of integrity and professional ethics
  • Experience with insurance and financial services industries highly preferred
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English

Responsibilities

  • Implement new IFRS pronouncements and the establish the related BaU process with business units to enable update-to-date IFRS application
  • Provide accounting assessment and / or review accounting treatment proposed by business units on new or complex transactions (e.g. mergers & acquisitions) to ensure compliance with IFRS and / or Sun Life accounting policies
  • Prepare regular accounting assessment on specific topics in order to satisfy IFRS requirements, e.g. annual assessment on accounting policies between Sun Life and our associates and joint ventures, and annual goodwill impairment etc.
  • Perform accounting research and evaluate alternatives before recommending to business units and management the desired options that would provide the optimal result to businesses within the IFRS boundary
  • Review the accounting practice of all business units in Asia to ensure consistency of accounting treatment within Sun Life Asia
  • Train and communicate policy updates with business units and other stakeholders such that all finance people in Asia are equipped with the latest IFRS knowledge
  • Coordinate with all key management in local business units and Regional Office in providing the quarterly SOX sub-attestation signoff to support the onward signoff by Asia CEO and CFO to Corporate as required under SOX regulations
  • Lead the updates of business continuity documentations (i.e. Business Impact Analysis, Business Continuity Plan) and Business Continuity Management Program walkthrough exercise as a Plan Author of RO Finance Program
  • Work closely with other finance teams and departments in special projects related to financial systems implementation, process improvements to make sure that IFRS requirements are properly considered
