We have an opening for a GNC Manager 2: Hardware to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.  

In this role, you will serve as an Engineering Functional Manager and manage a department of GNC Components & Test. You will be responsible for leading the technical performance of an engineering team dedicated to procuring, integrating and testing GNC components.

You will be expected to be very knowledgeable in the different phases of a program and the role GNC hardware and components play in each one. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical and strategic direction
  • Coordination of assignments
  • Hiring of new staff
  • Networking with Program Office and key stakeholders to identify opportunities and issues where the department needs to prioritize resources to address business demands
  • Pursue research and development efforts to improve the organization’s products, tools, and processes

To excel in this position, you must exhibit strong leadership abilities and have a proven history as an effective communicator and problem solver. You should be capable of building and maintaining positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and adept at operating within a team setting, collaborating across different business areas as needed to achieve team and departmental objectives. The role is expected to involve 30%-50% functional management tasks, with the remaining duties focused on GNC technical work across various programs.

Specific management responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and retention to meet demands and back-fill positions
  • Training, mentoring, and coaching on technical and soft skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Career guidance, goal setting, and performance evaluations
  • Compensation evaluations and administration
  • Policy dissemination
  • Workload planning and forecasting
  • Developing advanced techniques for guidance and navigation problem-solving
  • Promoting tools to enhance organizational expertise
  • Internal interactions with the engineering team and external interactions with suppliers, vendors, or customers for problem resolution
  • Participation in developing new and expanding existing business opportunities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience.  Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in Guidance, Navigation, & Controls Analysis or related engineering
  • Experience with Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO)
  • Active Top Secret clearance at time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD
  • Experience managing or leading a GNC functional department or group
  • At least 7 years of direct related experience in Guidance, Navigation, & Controls engineering or related engineering.
  • Ability to effectively motivate people to work as an integrated team across locations, companies and cultures
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI access
  • Active Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program clearance
  • CAM experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
