Job Summary: The incumbent in this position is under the supervision of the Construction and Maintenance Supervisor and performs in-house construction and modifications of architectural and utility components of buildings, requiring the use of a variety of trades and practices associated with the following occupations: carpentry, painting, sheet metal worker, plumber, electrical worker, and telecommunications worker.

Major Duties:

  • This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until January 8, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be December 17, 2025. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Performs carpentry, painting, sheet metal work, plumbing, electrical, telecommunications and other duties in the construction, renovation, and restoration of areas of the facility, as a member of a Special Level Projects team. Construction and modification of walls made of wood, steel, sheetrock, and plaster, apply paint and wall coverings to finished product; installs wood and metal doors and door frames along with associated hardware, closures, hinges and locking devices. Installs and repairs ceilings made of drywall and suspended ceiling grid and tile. Place all types of floors made of wood, vinyl, carpet, and ceramic tile; installs and fabricates air conditioning/heating/ventilation piping, metal structure repairs and metal access points in walls and ceilings. Assists with the installation of water and drain lines, bathroom fixtures, and showers, Installs and fabricates air conditioning/heating/ventilation piping. Assist in the installation, troubleshooting and termination of telecommunication cable both voice and non-voice data lines, as well as electrical devices. Paints a variety of surfaces, such as interiors and exteriors of buildings and/or stationary mobile equipment, where appearance as well as surface protections are important. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD14328A Physical Requirements: May handle or carry weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance from other employees. Assistance is usually available for handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Work requires pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, walking, climbing, stooping, ability for normal mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, normal hearing and vision. Must have physical capabilities for working inside and outside in excessive heat and cold, noise, confined areas, inclement weather and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit to or from work sites. May receive minor cuts and abrasions while performing these duties. Must be able to work from ladders and platforms, and work in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Working conditions: May be assigned to work in areas/confined spaces were certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained consistent with applicable laws and regulations. Incumbent will be required to wear respirators and must be physically able to perform assigned work tasks as directed above and operate safety equipment. Typical safety equipment required by the trade is safety shoes, safety glasses, respirators, protective clothing, and hard hats. Will work a regular tour of duty but may be required to work overtime, nights, or weekends dependent on hospital needs.
