M&A Investment Banking Analyst - Shareholder Activism & Takeover Defense

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a 1st or 2nd Year Analyst to join the Shareholder Advisory & Defense group within the broader Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) team in New York City. In this role you will advise clients across a variety of topics and industries including Consumer/Retail, Industrials, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Power & Energy, Real Estate & Gaming and Technology/Media/Telecomm. You will also have firsthand exposure to experiences across M&A transactions, equity capital markets, corporate finance and investor relations. The group combines deep industry experience with big data analytics to deliver clients differentiated advice and drive strategic business.


Investment Banking Analysts are an integral part of the Investment Banking team. They are directly involved in the design, origination, structuring and execution of investment banking products and services for existing and prospective clients. The Analyst provides these services as part of a team consisting of Associates, Vice Presidents, Directors, and Managing Directors.


In this role, you will:

  • Participate in analyzing companies, their shareholder bases, and their vulnerability to activism or a takeover, including deploying big data analytics and modeling
  • Develop defense strategies for clients including assessment of M&A, capital allocation and governance options
  • Prepare client presentations, manage internal and external workflows, and collaborate with coverage and product teams across the bank
  • Gain exposure to detailed and complex financial models and live M&A execution
  • Follow relevant news flow on shareholder activism and hostile M&A
  • Receive direction from a manager and exercise independent judgment while developing an understanding of compliance and risk management requirements for Investment Banking
     

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ months of Investment Banking Program experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Background in Finance, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or another business/quantitative-related field
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity and/or openness to work with Python and SQL
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Well-developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Desire to be part of a high performing and collaborative team


Job Expectations:

  • FINRA SIE, Series 63, and Series 79 exams must all be successfully completed within 90 days of employment if not available for transfer
  • Ability to work long hours in a demanding, highly focused collaborative and fast paced team environment with a sense of personal accountability and urgency for achieving results
  • This position is subject to FINRA background screening requirements. Candidates must successfully complete and pass a background check prior to hire. In accordance with FINRA rules, individuals who are subject to statutory disqualification are not eligible to be associated with a FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Successful candidates must also meet and comply with ongoing regulatory obligations, which include periodic screening and mandatory reporting of certain incidents.

​Base Pay:

  • Pay Range - $110,000-$125,000
  • May be considered for a discretionary bonus

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$90,000.00 - $150,000.00
