We have a brilliant new opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our retail business. Our retail business is at the forefront of this revolution, designing products to meet customer needs and deploying technology to reduce emissions. The work will be varied, high value and directly impact the business’s delivery, our customers and the Irish economy.

Location: With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. You will however need to be flexible to work from our Dublin office on at least 2 days each week.

What will you do?

• Drive BGE’s Net Zero Ambitions by providing expert legal advice across:
  • Contracts for innovative energy and service products, including EV charging tariffs, solar and heat pump installations, and micro-generation tariffs.
  • Delivery of deep home retrofits through our One Stop Shop offering and supplier network.
  • Development of smart eco homes via Hive connected products such as thermostats and EV chargers.
  • Marketing and sponsorship initiatives, including partnerships with the GAA, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, and digital influencers.
  • Strategic partnerships with major companies to create exclusive offers for Bord Gáis Energy Rewards Club members.
• Support Senior Legal Counsel on major commercial projects, including outsourcing arrangements and IT infrastructure agreements.
• Assist with Dispute Resolution, managing escalated customer complaints and litigation in the Circuit and District Courts.
• Monitor and Advise on Regulatory Change, researching and reporting on evolving legal and regulatory issues impacting the energy sector.
• Broaden Your Expertise through:
  • Company Secretarial and Board governance activities.
  • Collaboration with our UK & Ireland legal team to support market-leading UK energy businesses.
• Maintain Legal Resources, ensuring precedents and templates remain current and fit for purpose.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

• A professionally qualified lawyer with an Irish practising certificate and significant proven experience (in-house experience is desirable).
• Strong background in commercial law, including drafting and negotiating contracts.
• Commercially astute with experience delivering complex, high-profile matters in fast-paced environments.
• Knowledge of the energy sector and related areas (e.g., consumer regulation, data protection, technology) is an advantage.
• Ability to assess risk and provide pragmatic, business-focused advice within regulatory frameworks.
• Comfortable working independently, supporting senior colleagues, and managing paralegals.
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Skilled in building strong stakeholder relationships and open to innovative ways of working, including AI adoption.
• Adaptable, proactive, and committed to continuous learning.
