Legal Content Portfolio Manager

The Legal Content Portfolio Manager is responsible for driving the acquisition, development, and integration of high-value legal content across Kluwer Law International’s digital research platforms. This role leads a team focused on sourcing authoritative secondary content through author/editor relationships and partnerships, while also managing the acquisition and structuring of primary legal data. The manager ensures the necessary support for the enrichment and seamless integration of the content
into our digital platforms, supporting product innovation, user engagement, and commercial growth.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Product and plays a key role in shaping the content strategy that supports our expert solutions, and legal research services and aligns with the strategy from WK L&R and US.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Content Acquisition & Development

  • Lead the acquisition of legal content through author/editor relationships, professional networks, and strategic partnerships.

  • Develop and implement Author Management strategy.

  • Identify and evaluate new content opportunities aligned with market trends and product strategy.

  • Manage author contracts, royalty structures, and editorial budgets.

  • Develop and maintain a robust publishing calendar across portfolios.

  • Oversee proposal review, manuscript development, and contract execution.

Content Enrichment & Integration

  • Guide and check metadata creation, taxonomy development, and content structuring to support discoverability and platform integration.

  • Collaborate with product, vendor management and content technology teams to ensure content is optimized for digital delivery.

  • Influence and contribute to strategy, tools and workflows for content tagging, enrichment, and quality assurance.

  • Ensure compliance with publishing standards and legal data formatting requirements.

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Manage a team of acquisition editors and content specialists; set goals, coach performance, and foster engagement.

  • Monitor KPIs related to content performance, author satisfaction, and publishing timelines.

  • Drive continuous improvement in editorial workflows and content operations.

Market & Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of potential content and data partners.

  • Lead negotiations and onboarding for new partnerships, including licensing and co-publishing arrangements.

  • Track partnership performance and report outcomes to senior leadership.

  • Coordinate go-to-market activities with sales and marketing teams.

  • Create thought leadership both for social media and at events.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Author Net Promoter Score (NPS): Measured quarterly to assess satisfaction and engagement.

  • Content Acquisition Velocity: Rate of content updated, new content signed and published.

  • Publishing Timeliness: Adherence to publishing calendar and delivery milestones.

  • Metadata Accuracy: Quality and consistency of structured data across platforms.

  • Partnership ROI: Performance of content/data partnerships against commercial goals.

Education:

  • University degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience


Experience:

  • 5+ years in legal publishing, content acquisition, or digital content strategy.

  • Proven experience managing author/editor relationships and royalty-based compensation models.

  • Strong understanding of legal content types (primary and secondary) and their role in digital research.

  • Experience with metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, XML), content management systems, and enrichment tools.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Content Management Systems (e.g., Drupal and enterprise CMS platforms)

  • XML/HTML Editorial Tools (e.g., PublishOne)

  • Metadata Management Tools (e.g., Poolparty or similar)

  • Creative and innovative in transforming concepts into commercially viable products.

  • Strong analytical skills, including financial modeling and market analysis.

  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and digital collaboration tools.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders

Travel: Up to 25% of travel is part of the job

Office: In office for 2 days in a week to work with the team.
