Lead Pricing Actuary

We are seeking a Lead Pricing Actuary to oversee actuarial pricing for THREE, our comprehensive small business insurance product. This position plays a critical leadership role in shaping the pricing strategy, ensuring accurate and timely rate updates, and driving ongoing improvement in pricing segmentation and methodology.

This individual will be accountable for the full annual pricing cycle, from scoping and execution through rate filing and implementation. They will manage a small team of actuaries and work closely with our data science and modeling experts to translate analytical insights into actionable pricing decisions.

This role spans the Commercial Property, Liability (GL, PL, D&O, EPLI, etc), Commercial Auto, and Workers Compensation lines of business.

This is a hybrid role that requires two days worked in Stamford, CT each week.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the actuarial pricing function for the THREE product, ensuring accurate, data-driven rate adequacy and segmentation.
  • Own the annual rate review process, including planning, timeline management, and sign-off.
  • Manage and mentor a team of actuarial analysts, overseeing workflow, deliverables, and development.
  • Review and validate analyses to minimize errors in rate filings and improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Partner with data science and modeling teams to incorporate predictive model outputs into pricing decisions.
  • Conduct and oversee deep dives into key industries or customer segments to identify opportunities for refinement.
  • Maintain strong controls and documentation around pricing assumptions, methods, and results.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, operations, and finance to align pricing initiatives with business objectives.
  • Provide actuarial expertise and recommendations to senior management.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • ACAS designation (or near-FCAS) preferred; significant pricing experience required.
  • 8–12 years of P&C actuarial experience, with a strong focus on pricing.
  • Experience managing staff and owning deliverables with accountability to senior leadership.
  • Deep understanding of rate review processes, regulatory filings, and pricing governance.
  • Working knowledge of GLM and predictive modeling techniques.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Commercial lines experience, particularly small business or package products.
  • Experience collaborating with data science or predictive modeling teams.
  • Strong coding skills in SQL and Python/R.
  • Familiarity with catastrophe (CAT) modeling concepts, including interpretation of model outputs and incorporation into pricing models.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The salary range for this position is $180,000-$225,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
