Job Summary
The Lead Drafting Technician is responsible for planning and executing complex drafting tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring precision and adherence to design intent. This role involves preparing detailed drawings and 3D models for fabrication, assembly, and installation, often requiring original design interpretation and problem-solving. The technician collaborates closely with design originators and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing and operational challenges through effective drafting solutions. They may also lead and mentor junior drafters, coordinate large-scale drafting projects, and contribute to design enhancements. A high level of expertise in CAD systems, drafting standards, and engineering principles is essential for success in this role.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Develop and prepare complex and original design drawings with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
· Collaborate with engineers and design originators to interpret and complete design concepts and resolve technical issues.
· Create 3D models and extract detailed and assembly drawings using advanced CAD tools.
· Analyze and implement design modifications, assessing impacts on form, fit, and function.
· Ensure drawings comply with drafting standards, specifications, and procedures.
· Lead and coordinate large drafting projects, providing guidance to junior drafters.
· Prepare time and cost estimates for drafting tasks and manage project timelines.
· Assist in the automation of fabrication and CAD system management procedures.
· Produce electrical schematics and connection diagrams based on functional and fabrication requirements.
· Collaborate with engineering and configuration management teams to coordinate design updates, ensure configuration control, and maintain accurate documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications
· High School diploma OR completion of 3 years of technical training course work.
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in drafting or a related technical field.
· Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling tools.
· Must be a US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
· Experience leading drafting teams or managing complex drafting projects.
· Experience producing detailed drawings for product manufacturing, assembly, and integration.
· Strong experience working with Autodesk software suite
· Familiarity with PLM systems and integration of CAD data into enterprise workflows such as Autodesk Vault.
