What is the opportunity?

The Lead Business Systems Analyst is an integral member of the Productivity Tools Suite of applications.

The Productivity Tools Suite of applications exists within the Books and Records (IT) team and includes Finance Datamart, eGL Reporting Facility, and FMS Portal.  The Lead Business Systems Analyst will drive and lead requirements-related activities that support the continuous improvement and optimization of these applications, ensuring a robust and stable technology solution that meets the needs of our Business sponsors and stakeholders. They will use their expert knowledge of Finance and Business processes, plus a combination of Business Analysis Consulting and Leadership skills to facilitate strategic analysis, investigate the root cause of problems and analyze opportunities for improvement. They will partner with Finance and Technology Leads to understand the business vision, strategy and business capabilities and provide input to technology roadmaps for the Books and Records (IT) team.

The position will ensure that Business requirements are analysed, translated and documented clearly, and will work closely with the IT Project Manager, Development team and Testing teams throughout the lifecycle of IT delivery.

The Lead Business Systems Analyst will work closely with partners across IT, Finance, Risk, Operations and Compliance including but not limited to Finance Shared Services, Enterprise and Finance Controller teams to analyse, build consensus on and deliver requirements.  

They will build and foster Business relationships to ensure the appropriate level of Business involvement during each change request.

What will you do?

  • Work as a Lead Business Systems Analyst across multiple projects and priorities that affect the Productivity Tools suite of applications.

  • Elicit, analyze and document business requirements, business rules and data sources, and work closely with development and testing teams throughout system implementation and delivery.

  • Pro-actively communicate and collaborate with Finance and business line clients to analyze business and functional requirements and deliver the appropriate documentation and explanations as needed.

  • Act as the first line of contact to interface with Users on the Productivity Tools suite of applications.

  • Work with project managers, developers, quality engineers and other business analysts, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Help to support, maintain and debug existing applications and systems.

  • Participate and assist with testing, configuration/release management, deployment, and post implementation verification.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • University degree in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting or related discipline.

  • Advanced Business Systems Analyst skills in elicitation, data lineage, data analysis, synthesis, evaluation and documentation.

  • Strong data analysis skills, including advanced Excel and SQL skills.

  • Strong understanding of Finance functions, including the role of the Enterprise Ledger and the Finance closing processes.

  • Strong communication skills – including ability to give effective presentations and lead a meeting with multiple participants.

  • 8-10 years experience serving as a Business Analyst supporting the delivery of Finance and IT solutions.

  • Experience using Iterative and Agile Methodologies.

  • Experience using business analysis and requirements modeling tools, such as data flow diagrams, relationship data models and business process modelling.

  • Solid experience with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Audit requirements, Segregation of Duties requirements.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with legacy applications, including Mainframe technologies.

  • CPA/CGA/CMA Accounting designation

  • Python
