Lead Building Engineer

Job Description Summary

Responsible to ensure the proper efficient operations and maintenance of the mechanical electrical and plumbing systems for the assigned facility. The performance of all necessary maintenance and operational tasks are developed to assure maximum life and reliability of all mechanical/ electrical/plumbing systems. Typically, this position does not have a Chief Engineer on-site at the building and is sometimes the solo engineer at the building. This position may also include the supervision of maintenance staff at the building depending on the size and complexity of the assignment.

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial property

Additional Qualifications

  • EPA Universal Certification for refrigerants (CFC/HFC)

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Basic computing skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)

  • Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, compressors, water systems

  • Knowledge of energy management systems

  • Strong understanding of building systems operations and repair

  • May be sole maintenance staff on duty; shift work/on-call/overtime may be required

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Trade school or apprentice program preferred

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and general building upkeep

  • Supervise maintenance staff (if applicable); assign and monitor tasks/projects

  • Perform preventive maintenance (e.g., filters, motors, lamps, belts, bearings, shafts)

  • Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance program

  • Develop and maintain building-specific maintenance procedures

  • Coordinate with outside contractors and technicians

  • Maintain inventory and stock control

  • Respond to emergencies (fire, evacuation, equipment failure) and customer concerns

  • Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and safety practices

  • Submit monthly reports to management on building operations

  • Complete required C&W Safety Training annually

  • Follow C&W uniform dress code and maintain professional appearance
