The St. Paul Park Refinery has a full-time, exempt opening for Lab Supervisor.  The position reports to the Technical Services Manager.  The Lab Supervisor’s main job duties are to provide support, leadership, and direction to employees in the Lab, and to effectively manage the operation of the Lab.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures laboratory technicians across crews execute product testing and certification accurately, safely, and efficiently in accordance with regulatory testing requirements to meet the production plan.
  • •Oversees the testing and chemical analyses of intermediate and finished products, raw materials, waste materials and other substances. Interprets results and assists in the determination of results criticality and impacts to assure proper control of specifications, quality, and uniformity of products.
  • Establishes and maintains a culture of safety and environmental excellence by modeling appropriate behaviors and ensuring all employees follow safe work and Laboratory best practices.
  • Supports the site product quality program. Ensures established quality control practices are followed to make sure accurate and reliable analytical data is reported and recorded according to procedures.
  • Communicates with Operations and Product Control teams to ensure proper work priorities and workloads. Responds to requests for expedited or special Laboratory results and communicates the results to the appropriate teams.
  • Provides analytical and technical support to chemists, laboratory technicians, operations, product quality, and supports Laboratory technicians in the performance of their duties. Assists in the execution of more complex Laboratory tests as required as well as troubleshooting test result anomalies.
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the Laboratory including troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of Laboratory and facility equipment including HVAC. Maintains adequate supplies of Laboratory testing materials and determining if major repair work should be conducted.
  • Conducts required meetings and sessions for training, safety, and new equipment operation orientation. Is responsible for maintaining technician training qualifications and scheduling.
  • ​​Manages the Laboratory LIMS platform. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Analytical Science preferred.
• Four (4) years or more relevant experience.
