WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Workflow and Analytics Consultant is a strategic, customer-facing subject matter expert within Abbott’s Technical Solution Design (TSD) team. This role leads complex workflow assessments and designs integrated solutions that drive adoption of Abbott’s automation, instrumentation, and digital health products. The Consultant ensures optimal configuration and integration of technologies to meet customer needs, drive business growth, and maintain profitability. A key contributor to winning technical and operational decisions during the sales cycle, the Consultant collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact, data-driven solutions that enhance laboratory performance and customer outcomes.
Major Accountabilities
Strategic Solution Design and Execution (25%)
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for Abbott’s full portfolio of digital health, laboratory instrumentation and automation solutions across pre-analytical, analytical, post-analytical phases.
• Lead the design and approval of integrated, scalable instrumentation and automation solutions tailored to customer-specific laboratory environments.
• Analyze complex laboratory data sets, workflows and operational challenges to identify opportunities for efficiency, scalability and improved clinical outcomes.
• Position Digital Health products that improve workflow efficiencies
• Standardize solution configurations across engagements to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance with internal design guidelines.
• Manage high-impact solution design projects across strategic accounts, including national and regional health systems, ensuring timely deliverables and alignment with business goals.
• Develop and deliver persuasive, data-driven presentations and Total Value of Ownership analyses that articulate Abbott’s value proposition.
Laboratory Instrumentation and Workflow Expertise (25%)
• Conduct in-depth workflow assessments in clinical laboratory to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities, with a focus on instrumentation, automation, and laboratory operations and processes.
• Create detailed current-state and future-state process maps and renderings of the laboratory to visualize current and proposed changes with a focus on creating detailed comprehensive transition plans that guide customers through the partnership with Abbott
• Analyze LIS data to assess sample arrival patterns and instrument capacity used to design a customized laboratory solution.
• Lead customer engagements to position Abbott’s automation and instrumentation and workflow efficiencies as transformative tools that enhance laboratory performance. Design customized automation and instrumentation solutions.
• Perform Total Value of Ownership (TVO) analyses to assist with the strategic positioning of a Return on Investment (ROI).
Sales Strategy and Market Development (15%)
• TSD Leads the sale of our technical products in core lab sales cycles for instrumentation, automation and digital health solutions
• Partner with Area TSD Directors and Regional Managers to assess market demand and prioritize strategic account engagements.
• Knowledgeable about industry trends, changing market regulations and healthcare policy within defined customer segment.
• Translate technical insights into actionable sales strategies that address complex customer environments.
• Lead sales professionals in navigating multisite health systems and matrixed decision-making structures.
• Provide technical data, pricing strategies, and transition plans to support RFI/RFP processes.
• Leverage competitive intelligence to position Abbott’s solutions effectively and differentiate offerings in the marketplace.
Leadership, Coaching, Knowledge Transfer and Development (15%)
• Mentor and coach front-line sales teams (e.g., Enterprise Account Managers, Ambassadors) on laboratory automation, informatics, and workflow optimization.
• Serve as the district SME, providing ongoing education and technical support to commercial teams.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and skill development to enhance team capabilities and drive innovative solution design.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with technical standards and strategic objectives.
Customer Engagement and Relationship Management (10%)
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including laboratory directors, IT personnel, and executive leadership.
• Support customer satisfaction and retention by delivering high-quality solutions and responsive service.
• Serve as a strategic consultant to the customer on laboratory operations and performance
• Ensure adherence to quality systems through rigorous design verification and approval processes.
• Act as a trusted advisor to customers, guiding them through change management and solution adoption.
Organizational Impact (10%)
• Influence Abbott’s strategic and market position through thought leadership
• Develop and refine standardized methodologies and tools to drive consistency and best in class solution design
• Drive profitability and gross margin improvements through elegant, scalable solution proposals.
• Provide strategic insights to executive leadership on emerging trends, customer needs, and innovation opportunities based on core job roles analyzing customer data and processes.
• Contribute to product and service development by sharing voice-of-customer feedback with Marketing, R&D and Product Management teams.
• Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 7+ years in Clinical Laboratory Operations, Technical Sales, Technical Service or Technical Applications
• Hands-on experience with laboratory workflows, instrumentation, automation, or middleware
Preferred Qualifications:
• Lean Six Sigma certified or equivalent
Preferred Skills: (any combination of the below)
o Deep understanding of process improvement methodologies
o Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
o Strong grasp of laboratory operations and regulatory requirements
o Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration

The base pay for this position is
$85,300.00 – $170,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
