Summary
We are seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our growing AI & Data Science team in R&D. This role is ideal for someone passionate about solving complex problems using data-driven approaches and deploying scalable machine learning solutions in production environments. Additionally, this role will focus on designing scalable NLP systems powered by state-of-the-art transformer models, optimizing inference performance, and integrating LLMs into real-world products. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intelligent, language-driven solutions that enhance user experience and business outcomes. This position is onsite with locations in Tampa FL, Arlington TX, or Orlando FL.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the development and testing of machine learning models for real-world applications under the guidance of senior engineers.
Support the creation and maintenance of data pipelines and model training workflows using modern tools and frameworks.
Participate in model evaluation and validation, helping to analyze performance metrics and suggest improvements.
Help monitor deployed models and contribute to maintaining their reliability and accuracy.
Contribute to the fine-tuning and deployment of large language models (LLMs) for tasks such as summarization, question answering, and chatbots.
Learn and apply tools like ONNX, TensorRT, or vLLM to support efficient model serving.
Assist in implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone).
Collaborate with team members to optimize model inference for performance and cost.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and contribute to ML solutions.
Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in machine learning and AI.
Document work, including model development and evaluation processes, for reproducibility and team knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
0–2 years of experience in software development or machine learning projects (internships or academic projects count).
Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
Basic understanding of REST APIs and microservice architecture.
Exposure to MLOps tools and practices (e.g., MLflow, Airflow) is a plus.
Experience with Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, or OpenAI APIs is beneficial but not required.
Comfortable working with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Linux, and container tools like Docker.
Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as MySQL or MongoDB is a plus.

Preferred Skills
Exposure to deep learning, NLP, or computer vision through coursework or projects.
Interest in feature engineering and model interpretability.
Basic understanding of prompt engineering and optimization.
Familiarity with multi-modal models and distributed training concepts is a plus.
Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines is helpful.
Ability to learn quickly and work in a collaborative, agile development environment.
Security Responsibilities
Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.
Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Duties performed in an office environment and manufacturing facility.
Must be able to work overtime on and off-shifts as required.
May be required to sit down for long lengths of time.
May be required to climb stairs.
