Our IP Paralegal will be a key member of our in-house legal team, responsible for providing legal support and assisting in the management of J. Crew Group’s intellectual property portfolio. The successful candidate will report to Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property and Marketing and work closely with our marketing and design teams and will administer our intellectual property portfolio, conduct trademark and copyright searches, and partner with IP counsel in advising on the use of proposed J. Crew Group trademarks, copyrights, trade names, merchandise names, domain names, and trade dress.

Your daily impact:

  • Using the USPTO database, WIPO websites, and other IP online resources:
    • Conduct trademark searches for proposed collection of style names for apparel, footwear, jewelry, handbags, and accessories,
    • Conduct copyright and trademark searches for graphic designs, lace patterns, fabric patterns, and logos to be used on apparel, and
    • Conduct trade dress and patent design searches for footwear, handbags, and accessories;
  • Provide clearance opinions to the marketing, copywriter, and design teams for J. Crew, J. Crew Factory, crewcuts, and Madewell;
  • Assist with maintaining and organizing the company’s IP clearance database and internal trademark files, including docketing in WebTMS;
  • Assist with submitting and tracking takedown requests with social media platforms and third-party sites to report and remove infringing content (unauthorized use of trademarks, unauthorized use of images, etc.);
  • Assist with IP training for employees;
  • Assist with all aspects of U.S. trademark applications, including preparing extensions of time, statements of use, renewals, etc.;
  • Correspond with foreign counsel in connection with the management of the company’s global IP portfolio;
  • Review the docket on a daily basis to track all deadlines associated with company’s trademark portfolio;
  • Assist with drafting sweepstakes rules;
  • Monitor developments in intellectual property and advertising law; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate
  • 3+ years of experience in intellectual property and/or advertising law, either in-house or at a law firm
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with USPTO and USCO online filing systems preferred
  • Familiarity with WebTMS preferred
  • Notary public a plus

Hourly Range: $33.65 - $40.38

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  The base salary is just one component of J.Crew Group’s competitive total rewards strategy that also includes the opportunity for bonus, competitive benefits and perks.
