WWL Louisiana, the TEGNA station in New Orleans, is looking for an experienced Investigative Producer to join our award-winning WWL Investigative unit. The producer will support two investigative reporters and one photographer in all aspects of reporting and storytelling. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and creative storyteller who thrives on uncovering the truth, holding those in power accountable, and delivering original journalism. This producer will request, research and vet information and records associated with reporters’ stories. This person should embrace new platforms – from longform storytelling on WWL’s streaming platforms to vertical video production. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with excellent organizational skills and sharp editorial judgment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support reporters in developing strong stories with clear narratives and well-researched journalism
  • Use open records laws, data analysis and innovative research methods to drive storytelling
  • Build databases to support investigative research and reporting
  • Create and maintain the investigates story and production calendar
  • Build and maintain strong source networks across our coverage area
  • Coordinate logistics and maintain communication among reporters, the investigative photographer, and the management team
  • Travel for interviews and shoots out of the coverage area, as needed
  • Follow legal and ethical standards set by station and company management
  • Partner with investigators to create long-form videos for broadcast and streaming, as well as mobile shorts for digital platforms


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field / or relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years working in television or print news, preferably as an investigative journalist
  • Strong journalistic writing and research skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Louisiana and New Orleans regional political affairs, along with a background covering high-profile criminal and civil cases
  • Proficient in social media use
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments under tight deadlines
  • This is a Monday-Friday role, but the candidate must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as story coverage requires
  • Proficiency using PACER, LexisNexis and submitted FOIA requests
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate across teams
