Desired Candidate Profile

The G6 Interagency Coordination Associate will be base in the UNHCR country office in Caracas and will report to the operation’s Senior Protection Officer. The UNHCR Representation in Venezuela is comprised of the Country Office in Caracas and three Field Units, two on the border with Colombia (San Cristobal and Maracaibo), as well as one in Caracas, the capital district. As of 1 January 2026, the operation has 48 staff members, including 43 national staff and 5 international staff

The Interagency Coordination Associate will support UNHCR’s role as lead of the Infrastructure and Temporary Shelter Interagency Working Group, recently established as part of the humanitarian architecture adjustments in Venezuela. These changes follow the global humanitarian reset and significant funding reductions in 2025 which led to the closure of the Shelter, NFI, and Energy Cluster and the creation of this working group to assume some of its former responsibilities.

The incumbent will coordinate the working group on behalf of UNHCR and in close collaboration with IOM as co-lead, ensuring effective engagement with members, partners, and the broader humanitarian community.

As this position entails a lot of coordination with the different members of the working group, as well as the broader humanitarian community and the UNHCR country office, the incumbent must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to engage well with different counterparts and establish effective working relationships with them in the interest of fulfilling UNHCR´s mandate. Given the independent nature of the position, the successful candidate also needs to have a strong capacity for self-management, especially when it comes to time management and the prioritization of competing tasks.

The operations will count on the incumbent to effectively represent the working group in interagency fora, and to seek guidance and orientation from UNHCR senior management as needed, as well as flagging issues that require specific attention from the operation. The successful candidate will also need to possess high levels of resilience and adaptability to a constantly changing environment to ensure that the efforts of the working group remain relevant to the humanitarian response in Venezuela.

To effectively guide the work of the working group in coordination with the co-lead, the incumbent also needs to have a strong background in facilitating multi-stakeholder coordination platforms as well as additional knowledge of infrastructure and shelter-related technical standards and the humanitarian response. Proficiency in English is required.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to sit for a written test and/or oral interview. UNHCR does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview, processing or any other fees).

The evaluation of applicants will be conducted based on the information submitted during the application. Applicants must provide complete and accurate information pertaining to their personal profile and qualifications. No amendment, addition, deletion, revision or modification shall be made to applications that have been submitted. Candidates under serious consideration for selection will be subject to reference checks to verify the information provided in the application.
