GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Must demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate Injury Prevention information to staff, community partners and families with children. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess needs of the family in regard to each child’s unique situation.

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Works collaboratively with the community partners to participate in assessment and planning of potential Injury Prevention programs.
- Participates in yearly budgetary process.
- Writes State and Federal grants yearly to help fund program, staff and resources.
- Submits monthly state and federal grant reports as required by the funding source.
- Oversee and Supervise Injury Prevention staff and program at Rio Grande Valley, Driscoll NICU main campus and South NICU campus and other Driscoll locations.
- Attends Trauma meetings and report on Injury Prevention focus areas and outreach.
- Researches opportunities for new Injury Prevention program development and implementation.
- Acts as a resource and leader in Injury Prevention efforts within community and region.
- Collaborates with Trauma Analyst to review current trauma registry data for current mechanisms of injury.
- Implementation of Injury Prevention programs and community outreach efforts are specific to trauma data.
- Seeks out and participates in leadership roles in local Injury Prevention groups such as Coastal Bend Regional Advisory Council, Safe Kids Coalition, Safe Communities, and others.
- Maintains partnerships with the Corpus Christi Police Department, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, Nueces County Health Department, Texas Department State Health Services, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Transportation, Child Fatality Review Team, and others.
- Responsible for the ordering of program resources and maintaining current inventory of products.
- Participates and provides community presentations.
- Assists with staffing of information/safety booths during health fairs and community events.
- Responsible for development and design of brochures, pamphlets, and fact sheets as necessary.
- Maintains current Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor status.
- Conducts Child Passenger Safety Technician courses to expand technician resources.
- Provides education to DCH staff regarding car seat distribution procedures.
- Create and conduct Injury Prevention continuing education classes for nursing and medical staff.
- Maintains and updates literature to reflect current Injury Prevention standards of care.
- Researches and applies for applicable grant opportunities for funding of projects.
- Remains current on legislative issues affecting Injury Prevention.
- Seeks media opportunities to educate public within parameters of DCH policy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effectively administers performance management system including: developmental feedback - goal setting - assesses competency - progressive discipline
- Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures.
- Responsible for sound management of human resources.
- Makes and implements decisions compatible with organizational goals.
- Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure.
- Supervises the following job classes: Injury Prevention Specialist, Community Representatives.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
