Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located in Honolulu, HI at Tripler Army Medical Center in the Directorate of Preventative Medicine. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Major Duties:

  • Perform inspections to assess potential health hazards in the work environment.
  • Recommend solutions to potential or current health hazards in the work environment.
  • Conduct assessments ensuring buildings are in compliance with government health.
  • Perform respirator testing, providing training on usage and care.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for GS-7 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) helping identify workplace safety hazards and 2) helping with independent inspections. Education: At least one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences. (Note: You MUST include a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education (Note: You must include a copy of your transcripts.) To qualify for GS-8 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes using industrial hygiene concepts and practices by performing independent inspections and evaluating hazardous work conditions. Education: at least one and one half (1 1/2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences. (Note: You MUST include a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education (Note: You must include a copy of your transcripts.) To qualify for GS-9 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) conducting Industrial Hygiene surveys, 2) analyzing survey results, and 3) educating the workforce on potential health hazards. Education: completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or at least two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences.
