Purpose

The Human Resources Coordinator serves as the primary HR contact for staff at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (WFC). This role oversees essential employee life cycle activities, including recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, performance management, timekeeping, compliance, reporting, and professional development. The Coordinator works closely with WFC leadership, the College of Natural Sciences dean's office, and relevant UT central offices to ensure smooth and effective HR operations. A commitment to best practices, confidentiality, and exceptional customer service is central to this position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and Onboarding. Oversee end-to-end hiring processes for staff and interns, including job postings, interview coordination, Workday transactions, and participation in hiring committees. Provide guidance to managers on best practices for recruitment and onboarding/offboarding.

  • Payroll & Timekeeping. Serve as department timekeeper, ensuring payroll accuracy and timely submission of personnel transactions.

  • Performance Management. Support managers in setting performance expectations, coaching staff, developing improvement plans, and navigating disciplinary actions when necessary.

  • Compliance and Records Management. Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records in accordance with university policies. Act as liaison to the College of Natural Sciences Dean's Office and other central offices to ensure adherence to institutional policies.

  • Culture and Engagement. Contribute to initiatives that strengthen organizational culture, encourage collaboration, and enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration, or a related field and at least 2 years of experience in human resources, or related people-centered field, such as customer service, or other high-touch roles requiring discretion and sensitivity. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated success in multitasking and prioritizing across multiple projects.

  • Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Self-motivated with the capacity to manage both immediate tasks and long-term goals independently.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, with the discretion and empathy necessary for handling sensitive situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional HR certification a plus

  • Demonstrated interest in nature, conservation and environmental stewardship

  • Proficiency in software applications used at the University of Texas (Workday, Office 365)

  • Previous experience working within a higher education institution.

Driving Required

This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$55,000+ DOE

Working Conditions

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the location (4801 La Crosse Ave., Austin, TX)

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; prolonged screen time

  • Typical office environment

Work Shift

  • Monday – Friday, flexible schedule within the hours of 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, subject to supervisor approval

  • Occasional evenings, weekends and holidays may be required for mission-related events
