Job Summary: About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, & Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces.

Major Duties:

  • Provide assistance to visitors by directing them to appropriate points of contacts within assigned processing center.
  • Administer pre-oath briefings to inform applicants regarding processing center procedures.
  • Answer and/or forward telephone calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate a variety of office automation equipment to prepare enlistment and other military personnel documents.
  • Maintain office security by controlling access (i.e. issuing visitor badges, maintaining visitor logs, etc.) via the reception desk.
  • Perform records management of electronic and paper applicant records.
  • Perform quality review of military applicant records, packets, and forms to ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Obtain military applicants’ fingerprints to initiate a background investigation.
  • Prepare recruitment and other military personnel documents for individuals enlisting or reenlisting into military service.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Maintaining applicant records by updating account/personnel records information; Obtaining data from employees/applicants for completion of personnel records; Capturing applicant's fingerprints for pre-employment background checks; and Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
