As an HR Assistant in the Employment Services unit of Human Resource Services, you will perform a variety of duties in support of human resource operations and employment compliance for the WSU Spokane Health Sciences Campus and other assigned areas within the WSU system. While applying established human resources, policies, and procedures for multiple employee types, you will serve as the main point of contact for a variety of recruitment-related activities, including but not limited to background check processing, reviewing and preparing job postings, and fielding questions from hiring personnel and applicants.
With guidance from the Senior HR Strategic Partner and Senior HR Consultant, you will:
Serve as the primary point of contact and coordinator for recruitment processes, with a customer service focus.
Processing background checks and communicating background check policies and procedures to department leadership, employees, applicants, and other constituents.
Coordinate New Employee Orientation sessions.
Review, develop, and maintain accurate correspondence and records.
Provide customer service to department leadership, employees, applicants, and other constituents.
Gather, organize, and frequently track and update documentation and spreadsheets, and maintain files; and
Assist the HR Consulting team in updating and maintaining HR resources, preparing reports and presentations, and communicating with employees and management.
Your work will require maintaining and ensuring a confidential environment at all times.
While WSU Spokane is primarily supported by an on-site Senior HR Consultant and HR Assistant, you will be part of the university-wide Human Resource Services team with colleagues and support available at all WSU campuses.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
This position is located on the WSU Spokane campus in Spokane, Washington. After completing an initial training period, the selected applicant may be eligible for hybrid remote work one day per week based on operational needs.
Monthly Salary:
Human Resource Consultant Assistant 1: $3,495 to $4,653 | Range 39
Human Resource Consultant Assistant 2: $3,925 to $5,271 | Range 44
Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the HR Assistant 1 level:
Three years of office experience, OR equivalent education/experience.
To be considered for the HR Assistant 2 level:
Four years of office experience, including two years of experience working with classification/compensation, performance management, and/or recruitment in a human resource environment. Equivalent education/experience may be considered.
Required for all applicants:
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience providing customer service both in person and/or over the phone.
Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Proven ability to perform a variety of tasks at one time, with frequent interruptions.
Excellent attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications for all applicants:
Experience in the human resource functions of training & development, benefits, recruitment, classification, compensation, and/or employee/labor relations.
Experience providing clerical – administrative support to multiple individuals.
Experience presenting group orientations and/or trainings.
