As a Cardiac Physiologist at our Leeds Hospital, you’ll hold either a BTEC ONC and HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement, or a BSc in Clinical Science /Physiology (or equivalent). You’re currently registered with the RCCP as a Clinical Physiologist. Ideally, you’re also accredited with SCST and BSE. You’re flexible, motivated and a team player.
The post holder will perform a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic tests and procedures, including advanced specialist investigations. They will be responsible for interpreting results and delivering precise, clinically relevant reports to support medical decision-making. In addition, they will provide expert supervision and training to junior staff and other healthcare professionals, fostering clinical excellence across the team.
As a Cardiac Physiologist, you will:
Be part of the team doing great work in our Cardiac Unit
Carry out echo cardiograms
Provide clinical supervision in line with statutory requirements
Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with professional, statutory and organisational guidelines
Main duties of the job
Perform a broad range of procedures in the cardiac catheter lab as part of the multidisciplinary team, including diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, right heart catheterisation, and PFO/ASD closures. Monitor ECG and pressure tracings throughout procedures, promptly reporting any abnormalities or significant changes to the wider team.
Support cardiac device implant procedures as part of the multidisciplinary team by monitoring ECG and intra-cardiac signals to ensure accurate lead placement, and promptly reporting any abnormalities or significant changes to the clinical team.
Lead cardiac device follow-up clinics, assessing device function, battery status, and making clinically appropriate programming changes to optimise device performance and battery longevity. Device patients are seen either with a consultant or independently, based on their needs and preferences. Clinical decisions are discussed with a consultant when necessary.
Ensure that appropriate Cardiac Device stock is available for implantation procedures, via communication with implanting consultants, materials managements and the device manufacturers
Be responsible for performing, and interpreting and reporting where appropriate, all non-invasive cardiology tests including:
ECG’s
Ambulatory ECG’s
Ambulatory BP’s
Exercise Tolerance Tests
All non-invasive testing should be performed in accordance with national guidelines and local standard operating procedures and results interpreted accurately with clinically relevant reports produced where required.
Ambulatory ECG analysis accounts for a significant proportion of routine daily workload within the department.
