Major Duties:
Qualifications: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Selective Placement Factor: Incumbent must possess a valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) with class B endorsement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Works aloft on poles, at ground level and in ground trenches or manholes requiring moderately heavy physical effort. Required to bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body needed for installing, repairing and testing electrical equipment in confined spaces. Frequently handles tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds, sometimes heavier. Working Conditions: Works outside in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment and is subject to extreme weather conditions. Occasionally performs work inside. Work can also be performed in underground facilities. Subject to injury by contact with high voltage lines, broken bones in falls from poles, and strains from awkward positions. Exposed to possibility of electrical shock and burns; when handling tools and materials, exposed to cuts and bruises. Emergency Essential: The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.
