Major Duties:

  • Perform Anesthesia Technician functions by performing duties that support the preparation and administration of anesthesia care to patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures.
  • Maintain a pre-established level of supplies in anesthesia work areas at the start of the day and in between cases including all anesthesia emergency carts/bags.
  • Perform anesthesia machine checks each day before the start of cases and troubleshoots errors in coordination with the anesthesia provider.
  • Store, set up, and calibrate advanced hemodynamic monitoring equipment for anesthesia providers.
  • Prepare intravenous fluids for the daily caseload.
  • Aid anesthesia provider during emergency resuscitations.
  • Assist in taking appropriate supportive action during a crisis such as airway emergency, hemorrhage, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Perform equipment and supply functions by managing the procurement, disbursement, and maintenance of durable equipment and non-durable supplies assigned to the Department of Anesthesia.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Requirements for this position are : Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting providers with the preparation and/or delivery of anesthesia care; performing maintenance on anesthesia equipment; and managing the inventory of surgical or anesthesia-related equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Anesthesia. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
