Reporting to the Regional Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Advisor ensures a healthy and safe work environment for employees by implementing and maintaining safety policies and procedures, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This includes conducting risk analyses, investigating incidents, and providing training to employees and managers.

  • Salary range  004: 71 200$ to 89 000$ (Salary will be determined based on skills, education, training & experience related to the position.)

 

What this role entails:

  • Develop a preventive culture where health and safety are values that will never be compromised.

  • Lead the site in deploying Agropur’s Health and Safety Management System (H&S) as well as site-specific H&S programs and tools.

  • Advise, influence, coordinate, and guide teams to achieve health and safety performance, risk reduction objectives, and execution of fundamental H&S principles:

  • Support, coach, and monitor the site’s leading indicators (H&S fundamentals/key preventive activities).

  • Ensure improvement of safety results and make recommendations to achieve site objectives.

  • Facilitate and lead root cause analyses (RCA) to eliminate risks and hazards.

  • Support the site in defining, closing, and tracking corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) resulting from audits, regulatory reviews, and/or investigations.

  • Actively participate in Gemba/BOS walks and/or site H&S inspections.

  • Participate in site operational reviews (DDS, WDS, etc.).

  • Lead and/or actively participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and, as needed, subcommittees.

  • Coordinate and support the development of health and safety competencies on site.

  • Provide advice and technical assistance to ensure the implementation of major H&S programs.

  • Act as a coach for all plant personnel.

  • Support the development of health and safety skills on site.

  • Travel between the relevant sites.

What you need to join our team:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.

  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in implementing and maintaining health and safety programs from start to finish.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in Ontario, Canada.

  • Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation, or in progress (asset).

  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change through strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as formal problem-solving techniques.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to manage sensitive and confidential situations and documents.

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and industry-specific software.

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

  • Knowledge of relevant safety and risk management regulations.

  • Effective formal presentation skills, ability to capture attention and manage group processes during presentations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to apply logic and methods to solve complex problems with effective solutions.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, adapt quickly to a changing environment, and think independently.

  • Bilingual in French and English, spoken and written.
