Overview:

Maersk is a global leader in supply chain management, providing end-to-end solutions across logistics, ocean shipping, and land transportation. The Head of Maersk Ground Freight Transportation – Canada will lead the strategic direction, operations, and performance of Maersk's ground freight transportation services across Canada, covering LTL (Less-than-Truckload), FTL (Full Truckload), Linehaul, Brokerage. The role will report directly to the Area Head of LnS Product in Canada and plays a critical part in driving Maersk’s growth plans within the Country .

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Vision:

  • Define and implement the strategic vision and operational goals for Maersk’s Ground Freight Transportation business within Canada, in alignment with Maersk’s overall corporate objectives and the priorities

  • Oversee the integration and optimization of LTL, FTL, Linehaul, Brokerage, services into a seamless, customer-centric offering that meets market demands and improves profitability across the region.

  • Lead the development and execution of new service offerings, partnerships, and innovations that expand market share and enhance operational capabilities in Canada.

2. Operational Excellence & Profitability:

  • Drive operational efficiencies across through continuous improvement initiatives, including process standardization, cost optimization, and leveraging technology and automation.

  • Ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery while meeting key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, cost, service reliability, and customer satisfaction.

  • Own the P&L for Maersk Ground Freight Canada, managing expenses, optimizing utilization, and delivering sustainable profitability in alignment with corporate financial targets.

3. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and inspire a diverse, geographically dispersed team, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Develop and implement talent management strategies, focusing on leadership development, employee engagement, and succession planning.

  • Set clear expectations, performance goals, and provide regular coaching and feedback to regional managers and senior leadership teams.

4. Customer and Market Focus:

  • Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with key customers across Canada, ensuring Maersk’s Ground Freight Transportation services meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Identify new business opportunities within Canada, including expansion into underserved markets and regions, leveraging both existing and new products/services.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities in Canada, ensuring Maersk remains a market leader in innovation and customer service.

5. Compliance & Safety:

  • Oversee all regulatory and safety compliance efforts for Maersk’s Ground Freight Transportation services in Canada, ensuring adherence to local, federal, and international standards.

  • Implement safety programs, training, and audits, fostering a safety-first culture across all operations

6. Collaboration & Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Work closely with other Maersk business units such as Ocean Freight, Air Freight, and Warehousing to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics solutions for customers in North America.

  • Partner with finance, HR, IT, and supply chain teams to develop and execute cross-functional initiatives that improve operational performance and customer satisfaction.

7. Technology & Digitalization:

  • Drive the adoption of innovative technologies, including AI, data analytics, and automation, to improve efficiency, transparency, and customer experience within the Ground Freight Transportation segment across Canada.

  • Champion Maersk’s digital transformation strategy, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of technological advancements within the freight transportation space.

Key Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the ground freight transportation industry, with a proven track record in leading organizations in LTL, FTL, Linehaul, Brokerage services across Canada

  • Demonstrated success in managing P&L and driving profitability across multiple geographies and market segments

  • Strong experience in operational leadership, cost management, and driving efficiencies in large-scale transportation and logistics operations.

Leadership:

  • Experience leading and developing diverse teams across multiple locations in Canada

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization and externally.

  • Strong decision-making capabilities, with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Industry Expertise:

  • In-depth understanding of Canadian ground freight markets, transportation modes, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of both operational and financial levers within the ground freight transportation industry and the ability to apply them to drive business growth.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Location:

  • Based in Mississauga, Ontario with some travel required across Maersk’s locations and customers

Pay Range: $135,000-$145,000 CAD

*The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
