Department Description

The Communications team work very closely with our well-established global Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) team, which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, marketing and client relationship management activities. This team is divided into a number of key areas, including practice M&BD, clients and markets covering industry M&BD, pitches and pursuits and campaigns and projects. There are also regional M&BD teams in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific with who this role will interact.

Role Overview

The Head of Internal Communications is responsible for shaping and delivering the firm’s global internal communications strategy to inform, engage, and connect our partners, lawyers, and business team colleagues across regions, practices, and industry sectors. The role ensures that our people understand and are equipped to deliver on the firm’s strategic priorities, reflect its culture, and that internal communications effectively support business performance, leadership alignment, and the overall employee experience.

This position sits within Corporate Communications as part of the global Communications team. The role reports to the Global Head of Corporate Communications, based in New York, who in turn reports to the Chief Communications Officer.

As a Senior Leader within the Communications team, the Head of Internal Communications will:

  • Lead and develop the internal communications function and team.
  • Partner closely with the Chief People Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and senior business leaders across the firm.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies aligned with the firm’s overall strategy and vision.
  • Operate as an agile, collaborative, and trusted senior advisor within Corporate Communications and to leadership across the firm.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Develop and oversee the global internal communications strategy, aligned to the firm’s vision and strategy.   
  • Serve as Strategic Adviser to the firm’s leadership team on firmwide communications and engagement.
  • Oversee all firmwide communications channels, platforms, and content standards.
  • Lead on the internal communications for major, global projects.
  • Partner with regional and business team leadership to ensure consistent, locally relevant communication.
  • Lead internal messaging around key moments (e.g., financial results, promotions, strategy updates, etc.).
  • Oversee internal channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, video, digital signage) and ensure their integration and measurement.
  • Maintain a consistent tone of voice and brand across internal communications.
  • Partner with IT to evolve tools and analytics that improve reach and engagement.
  • Mentor and manage all members of the internal communications team; seek opportunities for team development. 
  • Proactively role-model and encourage collaborative working across the Internal Communications team and with the wider corporate Communications function.
  • Be a direct point of contact and support the Chief People Officer with major HR, culture-related, and employee engagement projects.
  • Work with the Head of Marketing Communications to ensure our brand is consistently promoted and embedded within our communications.
  • Support the Head of Corporate Communications and Chief Communications Officer with crisis communications and other major projects, as needed.
  • Build and sustain meaningful relationships with the firm’s leadership team: provide insightful feedback, consultancy, and insights.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

  • 10+ years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications, ideally within a professional services or partnership environment.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior leaders and navigating a matrixed global organisation.
  • Proven ability to manage a global team and collaborate across regions, practices, and functions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
