The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, strategically minded communications head with a strong background in communications, public affairs and/or government relations. This pivotal role requires sharp business acumen, an agile mindset, and a hands-on approach to execution.
As Region Head of Communications & Government Relations (CGR) for Mediterranean, including Italy, Spain and Portugal, you will be responsible for positioning the Hitachi brand and elevating its visibility among customers, policymakers, and society at large, fully aligned with our global goals. You will run the development and execution of comprehensive communications and public affairs strategy across the region, manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and support global strategic planning processes. Reporting to the regional Head of Communications & Government Relations Europe and working in close alignment with the Country Managing Directors, you will run a high-performing team of communications professionals. You will also coordinate regional government relations activities in close collaboration with the Head of Global Political Affairs, while engaging with colleagues across our global CGR network.

How you'll make an impact:
Run all Communications & Government Relations (CGR) activities for the Mediterranean region (Spain, Italy, Portugal), ensuring alignment with global goals.
Manage and develop a high-performing CGR team, driving strategic direction, professional growth, and effective execution.
Coordinate regional political affairs in partnership with the local management, and represent the company to policymakers and regulators.
Strengthen and deploy the Hitachi Energy brand across all channels, adapting messaging for regional markets.
Develop and deliver integrated internal and external communications to support business growth and employee engagement.
Oversee media relations, executive visibility, digital strategy, events, crisis communication, and internal engagement.
Run the regional planning and budgeting process for all CGR activities
Provide strategic counsel to regional guidance and foster collaboration across business units.
Enthusiastically contribute to the evolution and refinement of the Hitachi Energy brand narrative as a member of the regional CGR leadership team.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders, fostering collaboration across teams, business units, and countries.
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and corporate governance standards.
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external & internal regulations, procedures & guidelines.
You're background:
15+ years’ experience heading communications, media relations, events, and public/government affairs, preferably in multinational, matrixed organizations.
Proven leadership across strategic planning, and stakeholder management.
Deep knowledge of communication best practices, with the ability to tailor strategies for various audiences and regions.
Digital fluency with social media to build reputation and engagement.
Commercially savvy, with the ability to link communications and government relations to business goals and market impact.
Global mindset with excellent interpersonal skills and cultural adaptability.
Relevant industry and Mediterranean regional experience is highly desirable.
Executive presence with experience advising senior leadership and influencing choices.
Proficient in English and Italian; Spanish and Portuguese are strong advantages.
Willingness to travel for up to 40% of the role.
