Job Description

The Head Dance Coach (Color Guard) is a part-time position. The primary purpose of this position is to choreograph dance techniques for performances. This position is required to travel to other universities.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for guard coordination activities.

  • Auditioning process and teaching routines to the color guard.

  • Designs/orders equipment and uniforms as well as makeup application as needed.

  • Coordinates the color guard members for all performances.

  • Assesses the performance of individuals for performances.

  • Coordinates auditions each year for team membership.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • One year of teaching dance or dance experience on a collegiate level.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Experience with choreographing field show presentations with direction from the director and other band staff.

  • Experience working with Color Guard/Flag Team students in a marching band or other coordinated ensemble environment.

  • Three to five years teaching on a collegiate level.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dance training in jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop or other dance forms.

  • Excellent physical condition.

  • Must possess the ability to teach excellent coordination and motor skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must have strong planning and organizational skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of color guard skills including but not limited to: Flag, Rifle, Saber and swing flags.

  • Ability to demonstrate musicality and appropriateness of choreography based on chosen musical selections.

Other Requirements:

  • Travel required.
