What will you do as a Growth Projects Director?
The Director Growth Projects (DGP) for Vopak US & Canada is responsible for shaping and overseeing the business unit's growth initiatives by providing leadership in project management and execution. This role ensures the safe, competitive, and successful delivery of major investment projects, particularly in the areas of sustainability, new energy, and gas storage. The DGP directly supports and governs Operating Companies (OpCos) in project strategy and execution, ensuring adherence to Vopak’s Project Management standards.
The Director Growth Projects reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and Technical.

What do we expect from you as a Growth Projects Director?
Education: Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 20 years of experience in a senior project management role, preferably within the chemical or oil & gas industries.
Proven track record in leading large, complex, and high-risk projects.
Technical Expertise:
Comprehensive knowledge of project management tools and standards, including project control systems.
Strong understanding of industry codes and standards.
Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated excellence in stakeholder management at multiple organizational levels.
Financial Acumen: Ability to ensure projects are delivered safely, within scope, on time, and within budget while understanding the financial impact of these factors.
Communication: Proficiency in both written and oral communication, with fluency in English. Spanish fluency is a plus.
Travel: Willingness to travel within the US and Canada, with occasional global travel.

What does your day look like?
Your core responsibilities are:
Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality (SHEQ) Leadership:
Ensure compliance with Vopak’s Health and Safety (SHE) standards for all projects.
Actively promote and initiate improvements in SHE performance across projects.
Project Execution & Governance:
Lead the execution of projects in accordance with Vopak Project Management (VPM) standards, including:
Gate review
Risk mitigation
Compliance with industry codes and Vopak standards
Serve as a key advisor for Project Owners on high-risk projects, focusing on strategy and project development.
Oversee the governance of high-risk projects, participating as a member of project steering committees.
Project Tools and Standards Compliance:
Ensure all projects follow Vopak's standards, tools, and templates for project development and execution.
Align and manage resources efficiently to meet the workload requirements of growth, sustainability, and new energy projects.
Project Organization & Approach:
Shape the project management organization, ensuring professional processes and standards are adhered to.
Coordinate with OpCo Portfolio Project Managers to align resources and project-related activities.
Provide support for project management execution within OpCos.
Technical Support & Engineering:
Organize professional engineering, estimating, scheduling, and supply chain services for all growth projects.
Ensure projects deliver value-add services compared to external consultants through first-time-right delivery and repeatable concepts.
Thorough understanding of EPC contracting strategy and vendor management.
Customer Satisfaction & Knowledge Embedding:
Achieve high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering projects within scope, budget, and timelines.
Embed knowledge related to gas storage, new energies, and sustainability into project design.
Coordination & Improvement Initiatives:
Promote the adoption of new techniques in project execution and engineering as developed by Vopak.
Ensure global alignment by coordinating with Vopak’s global project group for governance before submitting investment proposals.
Drive continuous improvement by adopting cutting-edge project control systems, QA/QC standards, and execution methods.
Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 104°F (40°C) and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 15°F (-10°C) in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employees must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
