Ngā Kōrero mo tēnei tūranga / About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager to join our Risk & Quality team. In this critical role, you will lead efforts to ensure the firm’s full compliance with global and local policies, as well as legal and regulatory requirements, specifically relating to our engagement with Government and Public Sector work.
Key role responsibilities:
Understands the different issues that can impact Government & Public Sector work and situations and is able to act as the second line support for XLoS queries in relation to Government & Public Sector work, escalated via LoS R&Q teams as first line support.
Act as the point of contact to escalate higher risk Government & Public Sector matters through the Government Governance Group for consideration and approval (including ensuring documentation is in place by supporting R&Q and engagement teams on drafting of analysis, and where necessary review of deliverables or consultation responses).
Has an overview of the Government & Public Sector portfolio via Salesforce reporting.
Whole Leadership
Acts as a point of challenge for opportunities in relation to Government & Public Sector work and situations. Often needing to challenge very senior Partners and staff.
Demonstrates a strong senior tone and acts as role model to others in their advised approach to how the firm should work with the Government & Public Sector, in line with policy and a ‘doing the right thing’ attitude.
Acts as a central point for Government and Public Sector queries escalated to the Government Governance Group by taking ownership and bringing in advice from specific subject matter experts as applicable (e.g. Conflict Specialist, OGC, Industry Leads etc.)
Leads the monthly Government Governance Group meetings, including drafting agendas, minutes and actions (and following up on these).
Business Acumen
Uses their knowledge of the structure of the New Zealand Government & Public Sector and what is happening in key areas to support in advising both the practice / LoS R&Q and the Government Governance Group.
Uses their knowledge of all relevant Global and local policies, and regulations, to support in advising both the practice / LoS R&Q and the Government Governance Group.
Relationships
Builds and maintains strong relationships on a XLoS basis at all grades.
Has strong relationships with Sector Leads which are used to understand the Government & Public Sector portfolio along with Salesforce reporting.
Has strong relationships with the Government Governance Group members, Chief Risk Officer and Risk Management, Independence and OGC teams.
Global acumen
Ensuring PwC New Zealand is compliant with the Global policy NRMP45 – Government & Public Sector work;
Reviewing, updating and ensuring sign off by the Industry Lead and CRO of the Government & Public Sector risk assessment on a quarterly basis, as well as ensuring on an ongoing base that controls for this are in place, documented (in our SharePoint files) and monitored. Also ensuring an Internal Audit review on an annual basis to provide testing. These are Global requirements.
Ongoing review of controls in relation to the risk assessment (including Salesforce higher risk Government questions, additional policies, guidance and processes when identified as required).
Maintaining a list of individuals joining or leaving the firm from Government & Public Sector roles and putting in place safeguards / cooling off periods in line with Global and local policies.
Keeps abreast of other requirements and trends from a Global perspective.

Knowledge of the New Zealand Government & Public Sector.
Ability to understand detailed policy and regulations and apply these to real life situations.
Ability to understand complex political issues and specific risks in relation to Government & Public Sector work.
High attention to detail and the ability to independently navigate and solve complex problems.
Ability to provide and write clear advice (exceptional verbal and written skills).
Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills at both a local and Global level, including the ability to challenge at all levels.
Ability to be agile and work at pace where needed, while ensuring the right matters are considered and documented.
Ability to be a self-starter, acting proactively where gaps are identified in terms of the need for policies, processes, guidance or other controls.
Strong project management, organisation and documentation skills (in particular in relation to the risk assessment controls).
Proficiency across the Microsoft suite of products.
Eagerness and capability to learn new software systems and technical skills.
Experience with risk management, independence or compliance (desirable).
Experience of Network Standards and/or Quality Management risk assessment processes (desirable).
