ING

Global Data Quality Lead (JG 20)

CDR (Amsterdam - Cedar) Full time

As a technology-enabled and digital-led bank, data is at the heart of everything we do. It powers how we measure risk, assess performance, and make decisions. To ensure we unlock the full value of our data, we must guarantee its completeness, accuracy, auditability, traceability, and protection. The Global Data Organisation serves as the first line of defense in securing robust data chains, working in close collaboration with all functions, business lines, and countries across the Bank.

The Global Chief Data Office (CDO) plays a pivotal role in this mission. As a central organizational unit, the CDO partners with stakeholders across the enterprise to enable frictionless customer journeys, support ESG-driven innovation, and deliver data products that enhance decision-making. With emerging trends such as digital wallets on the horizon and increasing regulatory expectations around data governance, the CDO is evolving to meet these challenges head-on, ensuring our data remains both a strategic asset and a safeguarded resource.

The opportunity

Data is one of the foundations of ING’s strategy to become one digital bank and Data Services is the place to execute our data strategy. The Data Services organization will fulfil ING’s strong belief that data is key in ING’s ambition to become a data driven digital bank, where we need more granular data of high quality to manage the bank wide (customer-)processes, modelling and decision making.

As data becomes increasingly central to ING’s business operations and regulatory compliance, maintaining high standards of data quality is critical. The Global Data Quality function is responsible for turning ING’s Data Quality strategy into consistent, scalable execution across all global entities, aligning with both internal governance and external regulatory requirements (e.g., TR RDARR).

In this role, you will lead a globally distributed team of experts based in the Netherlands, Philippines, and Romania. You will be accountable for driving the execution of data quality practices - from identifying issues to embedding sustainable fixes - while fostering a proactive, preventive data culture across the organization. You will play a critical role in systematically enhancing data quality throughout the organization, to ensure data quality remediation and prevention of issues at their source. Your responsibilities include fostering effective collaboration between local data domains and data consumers, and guiding remediation efforts with actionable reporting and structured processes, enabling robust and cohesive implementation of data quality practices globally.

Your responsibilities

As the Global Data Quality Lead, you are responsible for:

  • Drive the global Data Quality agenda in alignment with ING’s broader data strategy
  • Translate ING’s data quality vision into actionable global execution plans
  • Ensure full alignment with regulatory standards and internal governance frameworks.
  • Own the full lifecycle of data quality issues: identification, root cause analysis, resolution tracking, and implementation of sustainable fixes
  • Champion the shift from reactive firefighting to proactive prevention
  • Ensure clear accountability for remediation actions
  • Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing team across multiple geographies (5 direct reports and +60 functional indirect reports)
  • Foster collaboration between data domains, technology, and business teams to ensure cohesive remediation efforts
  • Promote a unified approach to data quality across countries and functions
  • Establish structured processes, frameworks, and KPIs for issue management
  • Deliver actionable reporting and insights to guide decision-making
  • Contribute to business plans, QBRs, KPI forecasting, and resource allocation
  • Monitor and improve data quality metrics, ensuring transparency for all stakeholders
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, including CDOs, COOs, and business leads
  • Promote a culture of data ownership and continuous improvement
  • Communicate progress, risks, and successes effectively to executive audiences

Your competencies

We are looking for a dynamic and inspiring leader to champion ING’s global data quality efforts. You’ll guide a diverse, multi-country team with empathy and clarity, fostering collaboration across business, technology, and data domains. Your ability to simplify complexity, influence senior stakeholders, and drive accountability will be key in shifting the organization from reactive problem-solving to proactive, sustainable improvement.

  • Master’s degree (MSc) in a relevant field
  • ~10 years of experience in operations, banking, or consultancy, ideally in a complex global environment.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multi-country teams.
  • Proven success in strategic stakeholder management, including C-suite and board-level engagement.
  • Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements and data governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complexity, drive operational excellence, and deliver measurable improvements.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and presentation skills in English.
  • Skilled at fostering collaboration across diverse teams and cultures.
  • Track record of empowering teams to act autonomously, think innovatively, and be accountable.
  • High organizational sensitivity and ability to build strong networks within the organization.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail, committed to continuous improvement.
